UPS load when comm cable plugged into DS410j

Postby soulnet » Sat Apr 30, 2011 7:17 am

I have an APC BX1300LCD and Synology DS410j

The UPS will show usage around 35-40 watt w/runtime around 117 minutes with the DS410j and a couple routers plugged into it. When I plug the USB/RJ-45 cable into my computer and monitor via powerchutes, it will remain around 35-40 watts. But if I plug the USB/RJ-45 cable into the DS410j to allow the Diskstation to monitor the UPS, the load will jump up to 125-130 watts w/runtime around 37 minutes (~80 watts when drives are in hibernate).

Has anyone seen a similar increase in UPS load when plugging the monitoring cable into a Diskstation? I can't figure out why this is happening.
