DS1511+ and Seagate ST2000DL003

Postby zasy99 » Wed Feb 23, 2011 4:32 am

Hardware:
DS1511+ with DSM 3.0
Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 / Firmware CC32

See my original post where I perform multiple tests to check the compatibility of the above hardware.
http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=33386&p=135064#p135064

In summary:
1. Added hdd #1, found, initialized, installed DSM 3.0-1358, created a basic volume to start off with. Volume created successfully, data copied to volume, read/write no issues.
3. Added hdd #2, changed volume type to Raid1, I can read/write data during the migration process. Volume created successfully, data intact.
4. Added hdd #3, changed volume type to Raid5, I can read/write data during the migration process. Volume created successfully, data intact.
5. Added hdd #4, changed volume type to Raid6, I can read/write data during the migration process, Volume created successfully, data intact.
6. Added hdd #5, performed Raid6 expansion, I can read/write data during the expansion process, volume expanded successfully, data intact.

I expect to keep expanding the Raid6 volume with additional drives, I have more on the way and will pick up a DX510 shortly.

Storage Manager Utility correctly reads each disk and SMART info.
From the above I am happy and confident with the compatibility of the Synology unit and Seagate drives.

@sparks: Did you get the ultrastar 3TB drives and tried them?
Thanks,

I have.

10 of them, no DOA, no bad sector, with two DS1511+. See this thread.

Sorry to hijack the thread. I am about to buy the DS411+II. But I couldn't find any information about the product especially the compatible HDD list. All I can find is the list for DS411+.

http://www.synology.com/support/hd.php?lang=enu&bays_id=3&product_id=60

Is DS411+ the same as DS411+II? Can I rely on the above link to get the HDD for DS411+II?

Thanks in advance!

Hello All.

Could somebody answer me if WD5000BPKT or WD7500BPK (and all other drives with "Advanced Format") compatible with Synology devices especially with DS411slim?

HITACHI Deskstar 0S03230 3TB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"

DS411+, DSM 3.1 Current, 4 Disk RAID 5

A certain online site had a deal on these a few weekends ago that I couldn't resist. Picked up four of them to go into my new DS411+ unit, figuring that if I took the risk and it didn't work than it was on me. The drives were immediately recognized and all status/temps showing normal. My >8TB RAID5 volume created, with error detect (default) checked, in about ten hours.

Even though the individual drives are 5400RPM I was still hopeful that I'd get reasonable speed in a NAS arrangement and I must say that I have yet to be dissapointed. Windows 7 reports a single large (~30GB) file copy at around 60MB/s sustained after the initial cache-hit burst of anywhere from 90-135MB/sec. This is direct from a 2.5" 7200RPM laptop drive.

I also tested (during file restore) with an eSATA attached single 3.5" 3TB 5400RPM drive and was able to exceed those numbers by ~15MB/s or so. I was routinely seeing between 75 and 80MB/s sustained during most of the restores (bulk transfers).

My DS411+ has been running without error for over a week now, just wanted to check-in with some results since I hadn't found these particular drives mentioned herein. I found the 7200RPM variants but only with the 1511+.

Is the WD1502FAEX compatible with DS211 ? (especially for Raid config)

They are not in the compability list of synology... The 1TB and 2TB are in the list... The 1,5 not.

Any issues with these and the 1511? still LLC issues?

Western Digital RE4 WD5003ABYX

I only need 500gig drives. Reliable is the most important thing.

I'm trying to stick with WD drives as Seagate has been unreliable for me in the last few years.

DS207+ with fw DSM 3.1-1613 is compatible with WD10EALX-009BA0 (1TB, Manufactured Date March 2011) under RAID 1 setup (data protection). No LLC problem as it seems.

Brand: Seagate
Model Number: ST9750420AS
Capacity: 750
Interface: SATA II
Synology Product: DS411slim
Firmware: DSM 3.1-1613
Reported by: ChrisRomer
YYYY.MM: 2011:05
Notes: 4 x 750GB SHR, no hot swap (per Synology, won't initialize), yes to hibernation (still testing the cause of occasional hibernation block - although with DS411slim, my opinion leans to turning hibernation off until Synology lets the fan spin during sleep)
