APC Smart-ups 1000VA LCD RM 2U 230V

Hi guys,

Does anyone know if the new generation APC Smart-UPS models work with Synology?

I cannot see any of the higher end rack mountable UPS's in the compatibility list so I am unsure which is the best choice.

I am looking at the 'APC Smart-UPS 1000VA LCD RM 2U 230V' (SMT1000RMI2U) UPS for a Synology RS3411RPxs unit which I am about to purchase.

There is a note on the website that says "Smart UPS 750 VA LCD 230V is not supported" but it gives no details as to why.

I have purchased the APC Smart-ups 1000VA LCD RM 2U 230V and I am waiting for the APC Legacy Communication card to arrive to see if that helps.

We have a similar APC 2U RM unit at work and it works through the USB port. It won't work as a network host to the DSM OS.

Why don't you plug it in and see if it is recognized?

Not supported doesn't always mean it won't work

EDIT: I can confirm that a APC Smart-UPS 1500 RM can be monitored via USB.

Well I just set the UPS up (out of the box) its actually the APC Smart-UPS X 1000VA Rack/Tower LCD 230V (I changed my mind on the model when it came to purchasing)

On the Synology, its reporting back as a Smart-UPS X 1000, 100% Charged with an estimated battery time of 4075 seconds.

I guess the main test is to see what happens when the battery runs low and when mains power is restored.

I have it here now. The 1812+ recognizes it perfectly. I only have to test if it actually works when the sh*t hits the fan (that is: when I test it with a light bulb instead of directly with my 1812+ )

I also have the APC Smart-UPS 1000VA which I have connected via USB to my RackStation RS2212+ by USB but it does not appear to be recognized. Does it matter into which USB port on the RS2212+ I insert it?
