DynDNS Hostname

Postby lazant » Wed Dec 15, 2010 6:39 pm

Hello,

I am currently hosting two websites on my DS1010+ using the Virtual Host feature. My question is, can I configure DDNS to update both of my hostnames when my IP changes? Under Control Panel -> DDNS it only has one field for the hostname and it doesn't allow me to separate names by commas.

Also, does the DDNS feature update my IP address at dyndns.org only when my IP changes (as is required by DynDNS) or will my using this feature result in me getting blocked for abusive updates?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

You can only update 1 DynDNS address. Does your router support this feature? Then you could update the 2nd one via router.

Or you may install the 3rd party package "DDNS updater" available on the German forum:

http://www.synology-wiki.de/index.php/% ... _Community

first install the init_3rdparty package
then install the ddnsupdater_dev_help+gui package
and finally install the ddnsupdater package itself.

With this package you can update tons of dyndns addresses.

As the IP is only updated if it has changed, no abuse problems should occur.

Thank you so much! One question, I am having a little trouble with the second step of installing the ddnsupdater_dev_help+gui package. I downloaded ddnsupdater_dev_help+gui.zip, but how do I go about installing it? When I unzip the package, I get a folder called 'help' with two subfolders 'enu' and 'ger'. Google's translator is failing me.

Thanks again for the help.

you are probably using a MAC. The default unpacker there is for nothing (unpacks too much). Use another unpacker, you should get an spk file.

Sounds like a good program and I would try it, but I do not know German, and the site requires a seemingly extensive registration process to download the files.

The 2 first goes fine, but the third demands 'Init_3rdpartyHelp_1.5.spk?
What I had and get from you was version 1.1 - Where to find this?

Add: On http://package.10trum.de/index.php?id=37#Init_3rdparty I found a useable version

:oops: :oops: :oops:

Again sorry, I was not carefully enough. 3ptool_1.04c.spk is not needed. The link above is adjusted again.

You may also get it from the 3rd party package center: viewtopic.php?p=177149#p177149

THANK YOU HP! :D

I have them downloaded and will try them tonight. I take it that they work fine in 4.0b?

From what I have seen (screen shots and a inadvertent over uncomprompressing of the help file) these have English interfaces. Correct?

It is a shame that German forum is separate. There seems to be a lot of good stuff over there. The Web translation tools (and my wife) only go so far to understating them (and for me understanding the sign in process, I don't like setting up a web identity without knowing what I am signing up for, and the web translators do not work on this :( )

One quick question:
I did this:
download, install, run: Init_3rdparty_1.5.spk
download, install, run: Init_3rdpartyHelp_1.1.spk
But after these programs do their magic, do they need to remain "running" and installed? From what I have read, these programs set up the scripts, paths and variables to allow for 3rd party installs into DSM and the help manual, and as such should be done after the first run :?:

By the way the ddnsupdater seems to be running correctly and the help files are visible.
Again THANKS.

I ran into an issue with the 4.0beta upgrade and this package. It seems not be running the php code for the GUI. I get this when I launch it now under the update DSM.

Code: Select all
<?php
// ****************************************************************** //
// *  ddnsupdater - 3rdparty DDNS updater (webUI for ddclient)       * //
// *  Modul: ddnsupdater (index)                                     * //
// *  --------------------------------------                         * //
// *  Version 1.18  - 29/07/2011                                     * //
// *  for more information check the changelog                       * //
// ******************************************************************* //
..........

Rather than this Image

I uninstalled, rebooted, and re-installed. No soap. :?
