Accessing phpMyAdmin from outside local network

Postby jetnet » Thu Jul 19, 2012 10:41 am

Forgive me if this is a really stupid question!

I manage my DS411j over the internet with no problems but now I want to run phpMyAdmin remotely too.

The package is installed, but when I try to fire it up - I get nothing and eventually a timeout screen that says my browser can't reach the page (mydomain/phpMyAdmin/).

It seems like a permissions problem. I log in normally as "admin" and I know phpMyAdmin needs you to log in as root - so how do I do this please?

I did try entering "root" as the login with no password, but thankfully that was not the answer (at least that security hole doesn't exist)!

Exactly how do you manage your DS over the internet?
AFAIK, you have to be connected to the network to see the 192.168.1.101 or whatever it is.
I think that means using the VPN service or something like LogMeIn Hamachi (which isn't supported by the DS).

If it's not asking for the login credentials at all, then it's probably not even connecting.

Thanks! Of course you are absolutely right! I manage the DS via a custom port on the router and because my router is not on the Synology compatibility list I didn't have port 80 forwarded to the DS. DOH!

All working fine now and many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
