Software to stream to iPad

Postby nicko_mv » Tue Apr 17, 2012 9:49 pm

Hi everyone,

So getting my DS212 set up with couchpotato for movies, Sickbeard for series, and transmission.... all I need is a replacement for airvideo - or the program that used to transcode and stream my files of various formats to my iPad....

Has anyone got any suggestions for something that will allow me to stream an array of video formats to my iPad from my DS212? ranging from AVI to MP4....

Thanks!

Heya,

Provided your iPad is jailbroken, I would strongly suggest you use XBMC. also use SMB shares, so you can view SRT subs (if you need that, because dlna cannot play srt files)
Another good/decent player for your iPad if it is not jailbroken is: Buzz Player.
Mind you that Apple does not allow developers to use hardware decoding on any other format then .m4v (Apple), so it will be choppy if you do not convert your movies. XBMC can bypass these limitations.

Hope this helps...

All my movies are M4V. Will Buzz Player stream from my DiskStation using only AFP (i.e. no SMB)? Or does it just use DLNA from Media Center?

Thanks!

I always had a folder named 'video' under the shared folder 'photo' and in this I have folders with files of type mpg, mp4, wmv, mpeg, asf and mov all uploaded using DS-Assistant and these files can all be played with 'PlayAble'. Many of them also using AirAV or AirPlayer, but not using Synology's Photo-Station, which plays the video without sound!
I'm very new about iPad3, so what does 'jailbroken' mean?
