Re: System booted up from an improper shutdown

Postby Gav » Mon May 14, 2012 2:49 pm

Hi,

I purchased a DS212J just over a week ago and I too am receiving the improper shutdown message - I see there was link a few posts ago that has been removed. Does anyone have any further details on this link / fix - is this a new version of DSM?

Thanks,
Gav

No, it is not a FW update, just a small patch.

User should never apply any patches unless they are told by Synology support to do so. Therefore the link was removed.

Also having this issue on a brand new 212j out of the box. I've sent a support ticket in.

A lot of time being wasted around the world for buyers of the 212j.
I wonder how many people have lost hours of work.

Still no announcement from Synology for this problem.
You have to search for it

Bad Practice !.

I wasted a week before getting something else (not Synology)

Considering this thread was started 6 weeks ago, I find it unbelievable the firmware hasn't been updated or rolled back. Maybe there is more to it than meets the eye, but it's put me off buying Synology ever again.

Hi,

I have logged a support request - I explained my issue and provided a link in that request to this forum page and this is the reply I have received:

Dear Sir/Madam:

Thanks for your inquiry.

From your explanation , we'll recommend you to contact your distributor or reseller for changing a new replacement. It's obviously the issue of the NAS motherboard. We're sorry for that if there's anything
making you inconvenient. Please feel free to contact us again if you have further questions or suggestions.

So, the support offered by Synology has not looked into my device, not checked any logs, not requested any further information, ignored my question re the patch and instead tell me to send my unit back for a replacement due to a hardware fault...
I'm thinking if I get a replacement, I'll end up in exactly the same position as I am in now - has anyone else received a replacement and if so, did it fix the issue?

I have brought back the unit myself, then 8 days until I had it back.

I estimate that I lost about 8 hours in time spend on trying to config and finding out that the problem was not at my side and travel to bring the unit back in the hope that it would be exchanged immediately (it would not).

It worked when I got it back and I do not have the problem anymore.
Still, I do not dare to do an update.

As I wrote earlier, I know that sh*t can happen, I know that things can go wrong, but the lack of communication from Synology will keep me away from this brand in the future.
And reading in the fora here makes me think that I'm not the only one who is thinking that way.

PS
And the i-tunes server is a joke, but that's another story
Disappointment all along!

Support got back to me, had me install a patch. Last night the 212j rebooted itself again. Gunna wait one more day for another support ticket.

We have notified users of this issue in April; under Announcements in the link below (under Installation subforum), in the Announcements subforum, and also in our newsletter emails and website press release:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=50094

Tvon, you may need to RMA your unit if the patch did not work. You may PM me your ticket number and I will look into it.
