I've excatly the same problem with my DS411J with the latest DSM.
I don't know if it's related, but I had no problems until I enable Itunes server (I disable it now, but the problem still persist).

Can I please get you to report this issue to Synilogy so that they can see that it's not just my Diskstation ?

Yes of course, I will do (need my serial number for posting to Synology support)

In addition, I would like to said that the telnet connexion (for restarting Apache) is not possible with "root" when the Web UI is crashed. I can only log with "admin" and I haven't the rights for restarting Apache (log in with root works fine before Web UI crashes).

I will do further tests and let you know the results.

Christophe.

Thanks :-)
When my Web UI is down I can login via SSH as root and reboot the Diskstation, but of course that's not a viable solution :-)

Same bug here with my DS712+.
Firmware 1955 do not fix this issue.

Please report is ASAP, Synologys only solution is that I have to reset network settings and maybe even go as far as factory defaults which means format the disks and I have no trust in that this should do the trick.

This is certainly not a general bug. I have a DS712+ and never had or have any problems accessing it in any way.

If Web Station is working but not the WebUI then the system apache is crashing/not running while the user apache is running fine. This may be a result of modding the system (for example ipkg and so on). Same for not being able to telnet or SSH in with root.

I suggest to reset the system (2 x 4 sec reset button) and reinstall the FW with Synology Assistant. This will not touch any data.

So resetting the system and reinstall newest firmwar doesn't need formatting ?

No, it doenst format your data partition. Dont forget to backup the configuration, so you dont have to add all users and permissions again.

Hello.

I've reported my problem in a Support Form as Christian told me, and I must say that the technicians are very responsive. Thanks to them.

For now, my router is maybe for something(but I think than some things can not be explained because of it), and the Synology tech seems to approves that is when I enabled the Itunes server that my problems begun.

Maybe to try the "Harry Potter" solution ? Christian, have you tried it ? (who will be the first ! :D )

I let you imformed...

The same approach as they did in my case.
iTunes server has nothing to do with it.
They also first blamed my router, my switch and the jumbo frames, none helped.
So now they are sure that my DS has been hcked and has some bot so I have to retset the system....:-(
No I haven't tried it yet as it destroyes the MySQL database and I use that quite a lot......

Same issue here.

DS210J

It appears that port 5000 just locks up

80 is fine, 7000 is fine, LAN access from MAC/PC via explorer is fine

This is a new problem with 3.2 for me.

It could be an external thing like a mentioned, but would seem to be systematic with the software.

A restart fixes it. I've also noticed that when I have the problem sometimes pressing the on/off button doesn't work, and I have to pull the power which I really HATE to do.

The restart doesn't help for long.
Port 5001 is also blocked so it must be related to the remote UI.

unable to connect to diskstation via DSM in browser

Postby ppp » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:56 pm

Hello all,

I was eager to try out my new DS212j but quickly found myself to be stuck.

I've managed to go through the complete setup procedure without any problems and when I start up Synology assistant it's showing my diskstation as ready.
However, when I want to connect to it, I get an error (could not connect) in my browser (any browser for that matter).

I've rebooted my NAS already twice without succes.
All LED indications are normal, pinging is possible.

I'm using windows XP SP3 (media center edition)
DS212j, 2x2T compatible HD, RAID1

Can anyone help out?
Thanks!

I think that you should report in in to Synology, could be related to same that we are quite a few that have experienced.

I found a stop / start of the http process works around it.

/usr/syno/etc/rc.d/S97apache-sys.sh stop
/usr/syno/etc/rc.d/S97apache-sys.sh start

Having a look at the processes running on the NAS, there appears to be a lot of httpd and download redirector processes. If I was a betting man I'd say the problem was either to do with having the gui sitting on a machine with the download station running and this causing an increase in processes that aren't taken down correctly. Or the same thing with regard to a 3rd party download app.

I'll do a restart and look into this further, then log with Synology when I have something concrete

For now the stop / start does the job for me anyway

For those wanting to know more about it, have a look at the wiki. It tells you how to ssh or telnet into the NAS, then simply running the commands above may help
