DS1010+ & Seagate ST1500341AS SMART is broke?!

Postby the_noisy_crow » Wed Aug 04, 2010 3:19 pm

Hi all,

Well, got my new toy (DS1010+).
Also decided to try a Seagate ST15000341AS as it is the CCH1 firmware.

BUT....

The SMART numbers are all fooey?!
For Example:

Power_On_Hours == 0 << understandable it's just been turned on
Load_Cycle_Count == ?? << isn't there?
Raw_Read_Error_Rate == 521,538 << that's odd?
Seek_Error_Rate == 10,487 << huh?
Hardware_ECC_Recovered == 521,538
Head_Flying_Hours == 2,535,319

Help!
What do these numbers actually mean, or are they just broke?
I'm running the latest DSM firmware (1161)

Please Advise.

Got up this morning, numbers still climbing so I've returned the drive and gone for a WD 2.0TB WD2001FASS instead.

ST1500341AS numbers this morning...

Power_On_Hours == 11
Raw_Read_Error_Rate == 4,384,265 (growth of 3,862,727)
Seek_Error_Rate == 2,071,575 (growth of 2,061,088)
Hardware_ECC_Recovered == 4,384,265 (same as read error rate)
Head_Flying_Hours == 1,749,898 (decreased by 785,421)

Also, the drive itself was quite hot and was a cause of vibrational noise. :x

So in short I CANNOT recommend the ST1500341AS in a DS1010+
