SHR expansion automatically started over

Running a DS411, installing a compatible Seagate 2TB drive...expanding an SHR volume. After 4-5 hours, it got around 50% on "adding disk" and started back over at 1% when I wasn't looking.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm thinking I might just start from scratch and go back to 3.2 or do a downgrade once the disk finally finishes the expansion. Kinda wanna see if it starts back over again.

Has anyone ever shut off their DS in the middle of an SHR expansion?

P.S. I did search. Didn't see anything on google or this forum.

It took about 36 hours total, but it finally finished the second time around. Hope this helps someone else in the future.

Thanks for your post.
I've got a DS411+II and I installed a 500 TB drive and than added a 1 TB drive, the expansion was finished very fast, don't know now, but not longer than 1 hour.

Than I tried to add another 1.5 TB drive, startet the expansion, but nothing happend, it only displayed "Expanding (unmounting volume)". I shut it down restarted it and everything worked fine (the volume was not expanded!).

Now I've installed the system again DSM and HDDs everything new.

Yesterday I got another 1 TB drive and started the expansion, but until now (1day + 5hours) the system is always "Expanding (unmounting volume)" ...

No percentage - nothing, the fans are on - the disks are silent, the LEDs just blink when I access the DSM Manager ...

Don't know if it is working or not

The CPU level and the RAM is nearly unused.

See screenshot, might be a bug (should be faster - but maybe this takes that long?).

I let it "work" until tomorrow and than I will see - or not

MoritzDorn, could you please post how it went for you? I am in the same situation as you described and have been waiting for 3 days and it still says "Expanding (Unmounting volume)"...

Finally I shut it down (hard - not good!) but it worked.
I tried it again and again ...
I can't remember very well - sorry


I think I installed everything new DSM and Volume (I had a backup of all my data).
Expansion worked when I removed the 500 GB disk and installed the 1.5 TB disk instead.

After 3 days I shut it down but without success. I am now repeating the expansion and will wait longer this time. CPU is 0, RAM almost 0 but i can feel that the hard drives are working when I touch the Diskstation. (I started with 2 x 0.7 TB and added 1 TB hard drive)

After three weeks nothing, still "unmounting". The hard drives are on the list of supported drives...
