Hibernation and LMS 7.7

Postby gd11_be » Sun Jan 22, 2012 5:38 pm

Dear All,

I have the following question: I have the impression that hibernation is no longer working after I have been using the LMS 7.7 (Latest version of Squeezebox). I have enabled the hibernation log and after around 3 hours, the STATUS LED never was off.

I was wondering if anybody can advice on the log file below.

Appreciate your help and advice!

Re: Hibernation and LMS 7.7

Postby dimmer » Wed Jan 25, 2012 8:21 am

Hi!
I am expiriencing the same bug. But I also tried to disable LMS - no luck. DSM doesn't hibernate since update to DSM 4.0

I have the same string in hibernate log:
Code: Select all
Jan 22 17:07:12 kernel: [40915.230000] [/] opened by pid 12073 [u:(sh), comm:(sh)]

Does anybody know what it means?

My DS dosn't hibernate after upgrade to DSM 4.0 beta

Postby molassen » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:56 pm

I think there's a critical bug in 4.0 beta. My DS209+II dosn't hibernate after upgrade to DSM 4.0 beta. I'm not running Cloud Station and I'm not using Download Station. In fact I didn't install any additional packages efter upgrading from DSM 3.2 :(

Hibernate is very important to me and I can't get back to DSM 3.2 as far as I know.

How do I trace this problem? Does anyone have a DSM 4.0 beta that does hibernate?
Kind regards

Indeed, I have also been trying to disable more and more .. and I just can not get my DSM 4.0 Beta on DS211 to Hibernate. I hope that Synology fixes this one quickly in the new Chinese Year. I have entered a support tickets, so I hope this gets fixed soon.

Additional information: I stop my NAS during the night: at 12:00 AM it stops, and at 6 AM it starts again. that is the way I have programmed it. This morning: at 6.30 AM, the Status LED went off, and the hibernation of the harddisks took place.

Now back to normal use: Streaming via Logitech Media Server / Time Machine Mac Backup, and lets see what happens today during the day. Maybe it is related to the starting of some additional service, that keeps the harddisks from preventing to hibernate. I will keep you informed. Cheers, Geert

My DS212 hibernates with DSM 4.0beta. I'm running Cloudstation (NOT using the ezCloud-ID) & Downloadstation.
However, the fan keeps running even during hibernate. This was not the case with DSM 3.2.

Update: DS211 hibernated today, and also this evening when I went out for a couple of hours: yes, STATUS LED was out, and the harddisk hibernated. More data to come. I am not able to pinpoint what was preventing hibernation before.

Very very strange.

Re: My DS dosn't hibernate after upgrade to DSM 4.0 beta

Postby molassen » Mon Jan 30, 2012 10:54 pm

My DS is hibernating now :D

I recently bought a new WDTVLive 3. edition to replace my old WDTVLive 2. edition.
The new WDTVLive keeps polling my DS even though the WDTVLive is shutdown and powerled is off :shock: I've removed the powerplug from the WDTVLive and now my DS's hibernating just fine.
Kind regards

Hibernation doesn't work here either after updating my brand new 212j from DSM 3.x to 4.0 beta. Had i known this, I would have stayed on 3.x where hibernation worked.

In an attempt to solve the issue, I have tried disabling everything I can think of and uninstalled every single package. Unplugged the LAN cable. I did all the stuff in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=83&t=13722&hilit=hibernation. And after every change I did a shutdown and restart. But to no avail. Hibernation won't work.

1) Is this issue acknowledged by Synology?
2) When will there be a fix?

I managed to downgrade to DSM 3.2 again and now hibernation works and the interface is a great deal more snappy. I miss the new features in the beta though.

I got a reply from Support, the interesting part is that SqueezeBox is mentioned. But that doesn't make sense.

Squeezebox is indeed enabled on my DS 211. But in the morning, my DSM reboots at 5.45. And when I notice at 8 AM, the harddisks are hibernated. It shuts down at 8.15 (scheduled powered down) and reboots at 4.00 PM. And when I come back home at around 5.15 PM -> harddisks are NOT hibernated. So I am still very confused on how and when the harddisk should hibernate and on what applications it depends ! :?: :?:

Begin forwarded message:

Hi ,

Thank you for the reply.

First it's possible DiskStation will need more time than what you configure to enter the hibernation, as sometimes it needs time to close some working processes. These are as known issue when services are enabled, the internal HDD cannot enter hibernation mode:

* Webalizer
* Local Master Browser
* eMule
* Squeeze Center
* Mail Station
* Surveillance Station
* DiskStation is making re-indexing for the multimedia files after upgrading

Re: My DS dosn't hibernate after upgrade to DSM 4.0 beta

The
Jan 29 09:35:38 kernel: [13820.340000] [/] opened by pid 10102 [u:(sh), comm:(sh)]
is being triggered by either uPNP or the ezCloud/DynDns thingy.
Unfortunately I cannot remember which one exactly it was.

Disabling it fixes the issue.

Temp. Workaround:
Fortunately in most cases both features can be moved over the router itself (though managing both services on the DS itself seemed a lot more comfortable).

DyDNS moved to Router (instead of usage on the DS211). Lets see if this fixes the issues. I am not conviced, but worth a try :oops: :oops:
