Parent web control

Postby msindel » Thu Mar 22, 2012 12:31 pm

Dear all,
I am preparing a little home network for sharing files and media and managing an internet access. So architecture is relative clear:
1.       Clients: Android, iOS, Windows, TV via UPnP DLNA
2.       Connection: Wi-fi router, TP cable, remote access from web
3.       Server: Any NAS device
4.       Internet access management: ??????
5.       ADSL access point

I have 2 questions:

1.       How to manage a web access (mainly a parent control) without necessity of dedicated PC with proxy? Is available any add-on to NSA device? Some logs are enough for me.
2.       Is anything new in video transcoding? My I watch a full HD movie stored in NSA on iPad? And from web with low bandwith too?

Thank’s for response!
Martin

There are routers with web filtering and access control. There is no need to have this on your NAS box in my opinion.

Hi

In my opinion there is no reason that all internet traffic should go through the DS. Most routers have some features of handling log files and stop access to certain places on the internet, and all traffic runs though the router anyway.

If it's a big issuer get a router like Zyxel ZyWall, cost some what more but there you can really set roules for internet browsing.

I my self used Soft for you, and installed it on my sons computer (http://www.softforyou.com/) for some period of time.
Regards Michael
