DSM 1955 , anyone tried it yet?

Postby nubyOz » Wed Nov 30, 2011 8:26 pm

Hi,

Just saw the latest DSM 1955, in progress of downloading.
Can't yet find a new subforum for it, also the release notes are not yet out.
So anyone tried it?
The 'advertised' speed improvements would be welcome as always.

Cheers
DS211J running DSM 5.0-4493 update 3
Two WD2002FAEX (replaced my Green WD20EARS with the Caviar blacks WD2002FAEX after failures), formatted EXT4.
Back up important files to Seagate FreeAgent Enclosure with 2TB WD drive inside formatted as EXT4.
Try Back up on Seagte 4TB drive, EXT4, get Disk ejected errors

In a few days I'll download 1955, but before to install it, I'll check binary differences with 1944.
It seems to contain some new improvement, which means there could be also some serious regression.

Just tried it on my DS211j

Haven't noticed any problems yet. I did a quick sequential performance test before and after with CrystalDiskMark because of the changelog. It was 54/37 MB/s read/write before and 59/43 after.

The release notes are available.

Main update is the upload speed enhancement.
Which is ofcourse depending on the NAS-hardware...

The update on my DS-109 went without a problem (manual update).
Speed enhancement for what I can see sofar, more than 10%.

Does perfectly what it should do!

Updated yesterday using automatic update. No noticeable improvements not problems so far.
You have to make the right choice. As long as you don't choose, everything remains possible.

I just opened box with fresh DS212j.

Downloaded latest DSM 1955, and Assistant.

In assistant i found my NAS on the network
Clicked on it and i picked Install.

In a window opened i provided address to the .pak file.

And what i get in response? :

You have selected an installation file not compatible with the system model.

It is 100% your fault. Either you dont have a DS212j or you didnt download the file for YOUR model.

FW for DS212j:

According to Synology DSM1955 description "What’s New in DiskStation Manager 3.2" your model is not affected by the performance boost.

Download and install went without a hitch.
To my surprise, my LANSpeed test revealed a 21% write speed, and a 2.5% read speed improvement! The write speed improvement is significant and puts this little NAS in another category. Great work Synology.

Postby RobertWillis » Sat Dec 03, 2011 8:26 pm

Manually Downloaded the firmware and performed the installation onto a DS1511+. The installation completed without any errors, and the read and write speeds have impproved based on my limited testing so far.
