Unable to Print

Postby rcblackwell » Wed Sep 07, 2011 3:40 am

Installed DSM3.2 - 1922 on a DS209 this morning and now I'm unable to print. The printer is a Brother HL-1435 which does show up in the DS's Device list. The printers status show the "Printing" however no output is received at the printer.

In an attempt to resolve this issue I've restarted the DS and printer and swapped USB ports on the DS209. I've even gone as far as uninstalling then reinstalling the printer in Windows but that hasn't helped. What else should I be looking at to resolve the issue?

I use a paralell to usb converter, and a HP Laserjet 5mp (driver is in synology DB)

Was able to print and use airprint in DSM 3.1. but not in 3.2
Synology told me, this was a beta issue, but in 1922 it is still not fixed

Please help...

I'd recommend to log a ticket.

I have the exact same problem on my DS411j and my HP LJ4050 which is attached via a parallel to USB converter.

It was working on 3.1 code, but since updating to the 3.2 beta, it's still not working. I've applied two beta patches from Synology and the final version. I'm currently at the point where I've had to enable external access to the DS by opening some ports.

I have also the same problem with my DS109+ with a laserjet 4050. With DSM3.1 it works fine with the parallel to usb conventer but now with DSM 3.2 the printer does nothing.

I have the same problem since I moved from 3.1 to 3.2.

My printer is most of the times not even visible in the "external peripherals" on DSM GUI. When it is, all print attempts are queued, but not processed ; printer status on the DSM is stuck in "printing" status . On the Mac, after some time, comes up with an interesting "-" status (!)
Rebooting any machine won't fix the problem.

The configuration used to work great with 3.1

USB 2 parallel adapter
HP 1100
MacOS X 10.6

I'd better have that one fixed before my wife comes back tonight.

Agreed; a Trouble Ticket was posted at the same time as this message. I was hoping that working both angles would yield faster resolution but alas....

Same problems with a Samsung ML 1660
The problem was solved when I re-installed the printer both on NAS and PC (followed exact steps) with Synology Assistant.

Have the same issue. Uninstalled printer from DS and from Mac. Reinstalled printers and then I was able to print 2 items - though response time is back to that of the 3.1 beta. 3.1 fixed the speed issue and was a great addition.

5 minutes later I tried to print from another application and it wouldn't print again. :(

Have submitted a request for tech support. Time will tell...

I submitted a ticket. No reply yet.
Hope they can fix it soon.

I love the airprint feature to print to my old hp laserjet 1200 that's connected to my ds411j. I hope we don't lose compatibility after upgrading to 3.2

Worked great with 3.1 using my Brother HL 1440 - even with Airprint. Since the upgrade can't print at all. Very frustrating.

Great... first response to my support ticket:

We do not officially support paralell to usb printing..

---

This has been working since my DS207 .. One of the main reasons i bought my 1010+ ..
But NOW it's not officially supported any more...

I've been looking into this issue ...
synology change the way printing works in nearly every firmware release :D

I have been running some tests (I have an HP 5P connected via USB centronics interface to DS1010):

running some commands on the NAS (ie. under the bonnet) I can see everything looks fairly ok , the USB interface/printer are seen by my DS1010 but what is happening is the print jobs get to cups daemon/queue and then stick when cups talks to the printer/USB device?????:

Same problem. I have HP LaserJet 6P connected through parallel-to-usb converter PL 2305.
On DSM 3.1 and earlier all worked great. After upgrading to 3.2 (1922) no printing at all.
Printer status at control panel is "printing", but no result. I'm very disappointed.

I thought I found a solution to this issue however after successfully printing a test page no other output was received at the printer. The solution I tried may be found at http://yourmacguy.wordpress.com/2009/12/19/print-from-win7-to-macosx/. I've no idea why a single test page printed then all output, including subsequent test pages failed. Printer status indicates printing in progress however......

I have a case open with Synology. Let's hope they find a solution soon!
