SOLVED: Help needed: HP 1018 and MacOS 10.5.6

I've recently bought a DS207 and a iMac with 10.5.6. The DS is working perfectly and I love it

However I wanted to be able to share my HP 1018 to my MacBook (OS 10.4) and my iMac. I have tried every solution I could find. I know some have it working, but I just cant get it to work. The printer works perfect attatched directly to my iMac. And my laptop with Vista Home Premium. But when I attatch to printer to the DS none of my computers will print. Not even the Vista with the printer installed (type 3 lp and the default install via the local management tool delivered with the DS).

Try this, however, since you are using a Mac, you may need a different driver. If that ends up being the case then you should be able to get the Mac version of the driver, compile it into a "dl" file and use it in place of the one I provide, but the usb.agent file would still remain the same.

Make sure you have installed the HP 1018 drivers on your Mac.

Download these two files and put them in your public directory:
usb.agent http://cid-94d5e7d028973aa5.skydrive.li ... /usb.agent
sihp1018.dl http://cid-94d5e7d028973aa5.skydrive.li ... ihp1018.dl

Now telnet into you DS and go into your public directory (cd /volume1/public)
1.) Backup your usb.agent file (mv /usr/syno/hotplug/usb.agent /usr/syno/hotplug/usb.agent.old)
2.) Copy the usb.agent file you downloaded to the proper location (cp usb.agent /usr/syno/hotplug/)
3.) Copy the sihp1018.dl file you downloaded to the proper location (cp sihp1018.dl /usr/syno/hotplug/firmware/)

For others:
Follow the guide provided above -- but be sure to login as root not admin. You can log in as root with your admin password. Otherwise you wont be able to copy the files.

I installed the Foomatic foo2zjs-package local at my Mac: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/foomatic.

I installed both Foomatic RIP and Ghostscript for Mac OS 10.5.X.

I'm printing via lpd the DS IP with usbprinter as port (lpd://ip-adress/usbprinter).
