WD20EARX and DS207+

Postby Darryl » Mon Jan 30, 2012 10:47 am

I have a DS207+ fitted with a WD20EARS drive to which I would like to add a WD20EARX drive.

Are there any issues with installing a SATA III drive in this unit or any problems mixing SATA II and SATA III in the same unit. They will be used in basic mode, not as a RAID configuration.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I could not find an answer anywhere on the board.

Hi,
I'm using mixture of WD: WD20EARS X 2, WD20EARX X 3, WD2003FYYS X 1.
The array is working fine till now.

Hi Darryl,

did your wd20earx work in your 207+ ??

I'm thinking of buying the same harddisk for my 207+

looking forward to your answer.

Bought a wd20earx.
It works although I had a clicking sound every 1 second. This is because western digital uses an agressive 8 seconds for there intellipark (parking the heads of the drive), this can be changed.
I used the wdidle3.exe from western digital to change the timer from 8 seconds to 300 seconds and now I don't hear any clicking sound.
