DS Audio - NO fast forward / rewind on iPad/iPhone

Hi there,

I have a lot of LC-AAC audio files encoded with Nero AAC codec, from dbPoweramp, with a 0.85 ratio quality (around 350kbps). These files are stored on a DS1010+ NAS, DSM 3.2-1922, Audio Station is up with WAV transcoding option enabled.

When I play songs on my iPad with DS Audio 3.2, everything is fine except that I cannot change the playback position thumb, it moves slowly from left to right as long as tune is playing. For instance, if I want to jump in the middle of the track, thumb immediately comes back to its current playback position, as if it is stuck.

As I don't experience this issue with MP3 or FLAC files, do you know if there's any DS Audio playback limitation with LC-ACC encoded files?

Does anyone know how to solve the no fast forward or rewind problem in DS Audio.

Am using an iPad and iPhone. DS Audio logs in to Syn DS fine. Picks up all my audiobooks fine... Plays them fine.

However, usually you are able to "scrub" forward and reverse... Say you wanted to hear that part again...or skip a part...VERY useful when listening to university lectures etc.

Have spent hours trying to tweak...no luck yet. Perhaps the new DSM 4 does it?

Same thing for Android and I'm running the latest 4.x firmware. Is there any way to get this working?

After today's update (described below), scrubbing worked for an hour or two, but now it's back to the old behavior. Very frustrating.


I had the same issue, but it seems to have been fixed by updating DSM 4 from version 2228 to 2233.

Previously, when I dragged the playback head to a new location, it just snapped back to the current location. Now it seems to work, though not completely accurately.

Synology tech support told me a couple of weeks ago that they're aware of the problem and are (presumably) working on it, but they couldn't say when it might be fixed. Not very reassuring.

If you haven't already, please contact Synology support about this. The more people bug them about this (no pun intended), the more likely they are to get it fixed.

Also - if you really need the seek/locate function, you can get it by accessing your music through DS File. If I understand correctly, it uses iOS's built-in audio playback, which does have that functionality.

There are problems with this work-around: you can't use playlists in DS File, you can't see the name of the song that's playing, and if you don't recall exactly where a song is in your folders, you have to hunt around.

For example, a compilation album might be listed under 'compilations', or under 'various artists,' or even under the artist's name, depending on how it was tagged. I use my audio library for teaching music; on several occasions a song has popped into my mind which illustrates a musical concept, and I wasted precious lesson time hunting around in vain in DS File.
