deleting files from Filebrowser wont recover space randomly

Postby nee_savi » Mon Jul 25, 2011 5:12 am

Hi Boarders ..
I am stuck with this peculiar problem.
Randomly it happens that when I delete folders/files I dont see any update on my free space. Initially I though I am getting paranoid .. but looking closely and repeated occurance it was quite noticiable as most of the time the files are in gigabytes. Mostly movies downloaded.

At one occassion re-indexing after a restart recovered more than 130gb ... and it was a life saver.
But post that the trick never worked.

In the last 2 weeks .. as per my calcualtions I have lost another 50gb.

I am still knowing on Synology support doors .. but all seems to be ....grrr ..

I have DS410 with 2 HDD, 2TB each on Raid 1 with data protection. recently upgraded to DSM 3.2.
Did es2fsck on the volume hd and all was fine ...

Anyone ... any advises/pointer/suggestions ..

Hi
I just found out that i have the same problem. I was deleting all my shared folders on my ds110+ and found out that almost 300GB never recovered.
I had to delete the entire volume to get my space back.
Now it seems I have the same issue on my ds 710+. I have now lost about 4GB.
Did you find a solution to this? Could it have something to do with download station?
Since I'm mainly using my 710+ for downloads. Hmmmmm........ :?

I have the exact same problem, has anyone resolved this ?
If I rightclick the folders for that spesific drive it shows the correct amount of used MB.
Though Storage Manager is not showing correct.

The disk im having problem with is compatible, ST3300831AS.

If I move files from the disk im having problem with, to the other working disk, it will clear space.

I also have the latest SW, DS211J.

In my case it looks like download station was the problem. Download station is using a hidden temp directory to download torrents. All downloads are suposed to be deleted from the temp directory after finishing downloading(unless you're seeding). That was not the case here. All the files remained in this temp directory.
Anyway, this bug seems to be fixed in the latest version of download station. I have been using it for some time now, and it has not happend again.

Hi

I am having the same issue here - have about 800GB of data - but DSM is showing up 1.1TB used space. I dont use any recycle bins and don't use torrents as above.

Also re indexed a few times are rebooted the NAS`

Anyone have any more ideas on this one ?

Okay - found out why the files/space was not showing up in the "File Station". There was an old "shared folder" with over 200GB of files in it, which I had taken the read/write permissions off in "Control Panel/Shared Folder"

Rookie Mistake ....
