Postby smadon » Thu May 03, 2012 5:49 pm

Hi All,
I had a ds209+ V3.1 with 47 000 photos, but I did not backup the thumbs.
Now, I have moved to a DS212+ V4.0 and the system start to thumbs the photo folder with the47000 photos.

I know that the thunmbs process can take for ever.

my problem is that now the conversion show that I have to convert : 1 140 000 photos !!!!!

Why the converting system give me so many photos ?

Thanks for yoru help

The system generates just one folder for each photo and in each folder there are 5 thumbs of different sizes, so with 47.000 photos you should have at most 282.000 pictures!! How did you move your photos from the old to new new DS?

As written earlier (another thread), I have my original photos (only 12.000) and from these I generate (with windows) another set of photos sized 1200*900 and only these 'shrinked' photos are moved to the photo-folder! When I upgrade the DS to some new (happened 5 times), it's only these 'shrinked' photos, I move to the new photo-folder.

Why putting all your photos (47.000!) in the photo share?
Do you need to have them all available for DLNA or Photostation?
If not, put them in another share, and copy the ones you want to share to the photo share. Only the photos in the photo share will be converted.

Hi guys,
thanks four your reply

Why putting all photo ?
I use the NAS to store all my data (photo, movie, doc, music, ....)
and I added all my pic to the photoStation to be able to access them through the Internet.

How did I restore ?
I restore my backup through the restore process in the web interface to the new NAS DS212+.

As written earlier (another thread), I have my original photos (only 12.000) and from these I generate (with windows) another set of photos sized 1200*900 and only these 'shrinked' photos are moved to the photo-folder! Is there a command to restart the photo index and be sure, that he will thumbs only my photo folder.
Or check what he is actualy "thumbing" .
