viewing photos on iOS (iPod, iPhone)

Postby ericole » Mon Jan 17, 2011 3:56 pm

So I turned this feature on and began moving my iPhoto libraries there as a whole. Seemed the easiest way to setup a sharing folder, even though it carries all of the iPhoto "extra" folders. I've got my iPhoto libraries ordered by years. The first year I moved over, by itself, worked fine. I could pull up the photos through the iOS app on the iPod Touch perfectly. :) Then I added another, same thing. :) But now I've got them all moved over and it doesn't seem to work. It can see the different folders and pulls the names down, but all I get are the blank icons (with replica of spinning star thing). But clicking on a photo (blank) icon brings up nothing but the empty icon. It knows how many folders there are and how many photos, but doesn't seem to be able to display them - except for the first couple of libraries I moved over. They still work fine. And they show up in iPhoto fine as well.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try running a re-index on the NAS.

Also use the Synology Assistant application to upload photos to the NAS as it auto generates the thumbnails instead of the NAS doing it.

Having the same issue on my DS1511+ Just installed my diskstation. Copied all my Photo to a 'My Pictures' share on the NAS. Ordered them by year. Came aware of the Photostation Functionality. Enable it and saw the fixed 'photo' folder. Therefore moved al my folders in the 'My Pictures' folder to the default 'Photo' folder.
Afthr days of creating thumbnails (60 gb of photo's) thumbnailing is ready and idle but almost none of the pictures are shown. Only thing I see is as mentioned in this topic. Black star like icons (looks like a mouseicon you see when a machine is loading something).

Please help me out. I also have Itunes server problems in which my shared library is not seen in Itunes. Bought this NAS because al of its Multimedia Functions but a lot of it is not working. Also wanted to alter my Windows Media Center (win7) pictures and video to a Share NAS location but also didn't work because of some indexing error I get when adding the library in Windows 7. A lot of things I would have wanted and bought the NAS for but a lot of problems and investigations to go through to get it working. Somewhat dissapointed right now.

I have the exakt same problem on nu DS211j+. I have upload lots of photos in different folders. In DS Photo, I can review just a few, but most folders are just seen as empty thumbnail. I can open the files in DS file so the images are there, as can I see that they are there when I mount the DS as a drive on my computer. Strange thing that. Can see some folds but not all. I have erased all images and made a new fresh copy but still, most folders and images do not show up in thumbnail or when opened. Same thing when accessing on the web.

Anyone that has solved this issue? Seems like bug in Photo Station/DS Photo app..

Hi,

I Have the exact same blank Icons here. (Dsm 3.2 and DS211j).

- On Pictures browser : Files are there, preview don't show pictures
- On DSPhoto+ (3.4-052): Blank Icons on some photos, not all.
- AFD access per folder share: Mac preview show the Pictures (So it's there and functional).
- Re-Indexing: Did not correct the problem.

Is there anyway to restart the thumbnails process over selected folders? This may help solve this issues.
Does DSM 4.0 corrected this issues?

Thanks,
Christian

I have the exact same problem on my DS212J with DSM 4.0 and Photo station 5.0.
All photo's are copied from my previous NAS, mounted in the file manager.

The iphone application only shows a few thumbnails, every other photo is substituted by a " loading icons (circles)" .

The error does not disappear after re-indexing, changing the thumbnail size or whatsoever.
Remarkably the video's in the pictures folders are displayed perfectly on the Iphone Photo app.

My guess would be that the NAS cannot handle large photo library sizes.
The last change I made, changing the default thumbnail size to the minimum 124px, keeps the DS212J busy for about a day now.

Update:
Apparently the NAS was still running the thumbnailing process and conversion process of RAW format on the background, and therefore not showing the images which were not yet converted.
