I am new user and am running DSM3.2 on a 211j.
I uploaded 1300 photos using SA, which took over an hour on my 100mb LAN.
As a test I uploaded them by dragging/dropping them over the network which took a few seconds.
The reason the copy of pictures is so much faster when copying with File Browser or other file manages except SA, is that with SA the conversion are done with the processor on the computer SA is running on, other than if copied directly then your DS's processor has to do the conversion, and that takes much longer time.
In PhotoStation 5, I see there is an option to populate an album by choosing:
Add > Copy from Diskstation
When I do this and click 'Browse' I see a generic 'DiskStation' and not my named device. Also, there are no folders shown beneath this device (even though I can see the folder 'photo' from my PC over the LAN).
The Device name is a "bug" in PhotoStation (should state the name of your DS)
When using that function the only folder missing is your photo folder, as the operation will automatic put pictures in that folder/sub-folder.
If you don't see other folders, then the account you have logged onto your PhotoStation don't have rights to see the other folder's.
when I am logged in as Administrator, i see all the folders on my DS.
I have set up my Photostation so that the Account system is set to "DSM accounts"
Can I upload photos into an album from the diskstation itself, or must I always upload over the network?
Yes if you have pictures stored in other folders on your DS, then you can copy them into your Photo folder.
