Anyone more info about the processor? Single or dual? One big + is the 1GB DDR3

It is single core and use Atom D425. If you looks up in Intel web site you will know the specification of the processor. D425 can support DDR3 up to 4G RAM and I am going to change mine to because 4G DDR3 is quite affordable.

That looks like a nice machine ... if the DS212+ has floating point (=can do transcoding) it would be fantastic. Maybe the CPU is an ARM and not ATOM, but at any rate they can come with floating point or without.

Using only 18 Watt (versus 710+ / 712+ using 27 Watt) in operation, this is indeed good news. At any rate, the DS71x+ series are more powerful (with Link Aggregation for doubling the read/write speed) and all the fancy stuff.

To me it seems the advertised 712+ models only support USB 2.0 ... but maybe Synology is implementing USB 3.0 and that's the reason for the postponed introduction?

I will be buying a new Diskstation... soon.

Because I have bought it and use it to replace my retired DS207+. I saw this replacement RAM module when I open its case and note it is a 1G DDR3 SODIMM. Coinidently, I have 1 spare 2G DDR3 SODIMM so I immediately replace it to try and prove it is working.

Nevertheless, I don't have 4G DDR3 on hand yet though I look up Intel web site to search D425's specification to learn its maximum support capacity is 4GB.

Do you really think the performance just depends on the GHz? This was general thinking in the Pentium 4 era. But since Core 2, everbody should have noted, that GHz is only half the truth.

The DS212+ may have more GHz than the DS712+, but the CPU of the DS712+ is significantly faster, because of its architecture.

It's not an Atom, so the comparison of the rates is not valid.
