Map Network Drive Help?

Postby kohnman » Sun Apr 15, 2012 1:57 pm

I am able to access my 212J remotely. However, when doing so, i have to download each file I want, modify it, and reupload it to the server. I would like to map the drive and be able to view it in Finder, so I can work on the files on the drive directly.

I have tried using this http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.ph ... work_Drive but when i try connecting to the server, it won't connect. Perhaps I am using the wrong IP address? Do I need to access a specific port in the address? I am using afp://ipaddress:5000 - this must be wrong?

i am able to do this when i am actually in the office...connected to the same router that the 212J is connected to....but from home....or elsewhere, i would like to map the server remotely and use it that way...does that make sense?

Do i need to change any settings on the DSM to allow for this mapping?

Thank you.

The wiki you are refering to is for LAN connections, not for remote. Your keyword is WebDav.

I have tried connecting via http://ipaddress:5005....but it just tries for a while to connect...and never connects.

One question...likely a dumb one....do i need to open port 5005 on my router? if so, how do I do this?

Thank you.

You need to port-forward port 548 on your router to port 548 on the DiskStation. How you do that depends on your router. Get out or download the manual. I don't recommend using EZ Internet.
DS 1512+ w/3GB, 5 x 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 8.2TB RAID 6, half files/half Time Machine.
Icy Dock MB559U3S-1SB enclosure w/4TB Hitachi UltraStar via USB 3 for files backup
UVERSE to AirPort Extreme + 2 AirPort Express w/speakers. TRENDnet TV-IP312WN camera
CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD Sine Wave UPS
DSM 4.1-2661 w/SSH + SFTP, VPN Server, Syslog Server, Media Server, Mail Server, Mail Station,
Audio Station, Surveillance Station, Photo Station, Web Station - DS Apps on iPad & iPod Touch.

When I try to enable WebDav on the DiskStation it won't let me choose port 548. Says it is reserved for System Use. Only lets me use port 5005.
Any other ideas? Thanks for helping myCloud...this has to be much easier than this.

How do I port-forward to port 548 on my router?

Options are:
Public UDP Ports
Public TCP Ports
Private IP Address
Private UDP Ports
Private TCP Ports

Do I put 5005 somewhere? 548 somewhere?

Hello, since your question went unanswered and i was flipping through the board, i figured i could say something. Like myCloud said, you need to forward that port from your router and point it to the diskstation, not the other way around like you were trying.

Since there are millions of routers available and just about that many ways to handle port forwarding, you need to read the instructions of whatever router you're using to do the port forwarding properly. I, for example, use TomatoUSB on a hacked e3000 router, so i could either use iptables to do it manually, or the web interface to make it easier for myself.
