I am having simliar issues with my DS410js. Units will occasionally freeze during file copies from client to the NAS. Files vary in size from 40KB to 1.4 GB. Never had a problem under DSM 2.3. Majority of the time I can access DSM, however, units do not process the reboot or shutdown commands via the GUI; pressing the front panel power button doesn't shut units down. Only way to restore access is to pull the power plug on the units. I have a support ticket open. Support has been responsive. I've sent kernel logs to them and they are looking into it (they've asked for a memory test to be done and then a new kernel log right after). I would concur with the others... a rollback solution to DSM 2.3 would be nice as perhaps DSM 3.0 came out of beta too soon.

slightly ironic, but DSM 3 beta was ROCK SOLID for me, never had even a tiny problem with it!

:D

By the way, I forgot to ask... for those that got the SAMBA patch... can you tell me the support ticket number? I'd like to see if I can get that patch.

Thanks in advance for the reponse.

Does anyone actually know what that Samba patch does? Did they update samba finally or just some other configuration change.

Try this:
1. Turn on firewall on Diskstation.
2. Make a new rule.
3. Allow access from all IP's and from all ports to Diskstation. Save changes.
4. Reboot Diskstation (if it not rebooting, unplug it directly)
5. Turn on Diskstation (it will be work after long time (checking disks).

Sorry for my bad english.

I've just got an answer from Synology support. After they've examined my kernel log they told me that my network card is damaged and i need to take it to the service.
I've sent them an answer telling them that since the last lost access to shares and pulling the plug to restart,i've never had any problems again because i do all the copying/moving of files through the DSM web interface (file manager) and NOT windows explorer.Everything's working fine from in there and if it was a problem with my network card it would have crashed in there as well.
Please let me know if i am right on this since from what i'm reding from your posts guys, this seems to be a software related issue and not hardware.

Don't know, but this patch works in my case (was'nt able to do a True Image backup at all before patching).

Same for me - the patch solved all of the issues after further testing. I can now use Acronis to snap an image to the DS1010+. However, it seems to take a bit longer than I remember for the same size image. It is now 11 minutes versus 9 before for a 56GB partition. Don't know if that is the patch or DSM3.

I confirm. The backup phase takes the same time, but further verifying of the image is much much longer than before...

I've tried that but still after some copying/moving i lose access to my shares again.

Hi,

Had the same problem, changed the following setting which seemed to have fixed it for me, no re-occurrence.
This is purely anecdotal and by no means scientific.

Enable Local Master Browser, my super logic :D : if the NAS is the Master Browser it is harder to forget itself.
As I said by no means scientific.

Control Panel ->Win/Mac/NFS - > Windows File Services (TAB) -> Enable Local Master Browse.
Than restart.

Cheers

Back up important files to Seagate FreeAgent Enclosure with 2TB WD drive inside formatted as EXT4.

I'll try this and see if it works. There's a small side effect though according to the User's Guide:

Enable Local Master Browser
Enable Synology DiskStation to be the Local Master Browser.
Note: Enabling this function will disable the HDD hibernation mechanism and activate the guest account without password
