FTP folders

Postby Stuarta » Fri May 04, 2012 12:21 pm

I've just enabled a DS212 with the FTP service and everything configured, but I have a query on folder locations for users connecting in.

Am I right in thinking that the only options are anonymous pointing to a selected folder, or setting the users with home drives and then isolating each user to their home drive.

If the latter is the case, is it possible to move the location of their homedrives so I can locate them inside a folder I have setup called FTP.

Thanks

Hi

The home folder can not be moved per standard, but you can change the rights for sub folders in your FileStation, right click with mouse, and chose properties, from there you can set the rights for the user you want.

ok that isn't really what I was after. I would like to have a central folder called FTP then inside here, a folder for all the different FTP users such as

FTP\User1
FTP\User2

User 1 and 2 could then be locked down to their respective account.

Only way I can see at the moment is to use the home folders and then lock them down in there i.e

homes\User1
homes\User2

Can I rename this 'homes' folder and is this the only I can do it?

Hi

Well i can get the FTP folder to work with sub folders that only one user have read/write permissions to, the user can see the other users folder but have no access to it.

Will that work.

I don't think you can change the Home folders because it's a system variable.

Hi Mike,

Sorry yes that would work, but when I'm connecting in with an FTP client (at least) with Filezilla, I can't point the remote directory to stay as the FTP folder. At least with the 'homes' it locks them in

Hi

You are right that you always will have the home folder visible, and open for the user, that's a system thing.

unless yo use a anonymous user, then you can specify a different root folder.

yep and I don't think they'll want anonymous either as will be various customers possibly remoting in. I think homes is the best option and the user at the site will have to ignore that it says 'homes' and maybe I change their shortcut to FTP or something to hide it
