NFS and ESX4i on DS410j

This room is for the discussion of how the Synology DiskStation can meet the storage needs for Virtual HyperVisors.

NFS and ESX4i on DS410j

Postby 850cc » Wed Jan 06, 2010 7:31 am

Latest firmware on DS410j and ESX4i update 1 on a HP proliant server. I can create an NFS share on the DS and access it in VMWare. I cannot start any vm from that NFS datastore. When i install a new windows vm on it i cannot format the vmdk. Copying a vmdk of 15 GB to the NFS took about 5 hours.
I have tried with iSCSI on the DS and that works fine. It is however slower than local disks
Anybody any ideas ?

Greetings 850cc

I believe the error may be within your Hypervisor itself, as outlined here - also, some other testing showed that a Guest OS within VMware ESXi shows faster performance than the Hypervisor itself.

Hope this helps.
