Cannot access the internet from my CS-407

Postby user4711 » Thu Oct 22, 2009 4:00 pm

Hello,

I cannot ping any IP adresses outside my local network from my diskstation (CS-407 DSM 2.2-0942) from within a telnet session.

DNS Server and Standard Gateway are configured correctly in the network setup. I have not issues connecting to the internet with any other PC. No FW is activated.

Ping IP within local network (standard gateway):
-------------------------------------------------------------
cube> ping 192.168.80.1
PING 192.168.80.1 (192.168.80.1): 56 data bytes
84 bytes from 192.168.80.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=10.1 ms
84 bytes from 192.168.80.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.9 ms
84 bytes from 192.168.80.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.9 ms
84 bytes from 192.168.80.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.9 ms

Ping IP outside the external network:
---------------------------------------------
cube> ping 193.99.144.80
PING 193.99.144.80 (193.99.144.80): 56 data bytes

This issue causes that NTP time synchronization and DDNS updates will fail.

Thanks for your supprt,
Chris

Hi,

I've been having exactly the same problem for a few days now. I haven't been able to solve it yet. :?: :?: I tried a lot of different combinations of settings with my router and its firewall. Nothing seems to work. I also got the feeling it has something to do with the standard-gateway or the DNS-server addresses that I've set into the DS109. I use 192.168.1.1(my routers address) for both. So I also tried different combinations here without result.. Can anybody help us with some clues on this?

Hello All,

Can you ping your external IP address from the Synology? Does the gateway provide your DNS? Have you tried using a DHCP reservation and letting the router provide addressing (as well as DNS and gateway)?

Hi Josuaw,

-the nas pings my external IP:
NAS01> ping 77.250.70.69
PING 77.250.70.69 (77.250.70.69): 56 data bytes
84 bytes from 77.250.70.69: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=1.9 ms
84 bytes from 77.250.70.69: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=9.9 ms
84 bytes from 77.250.70.69: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=1.8 ms
84 bytes from 77.250.70.69: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=1.5 ms

--- 77.250.70.69 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 1.5/3.7/9.9 ms

-The gateway provides my dns
My router is connected to my DynDNS account, and states that it has updated successfully.
I also tried disabling this setting.

-The firmware on my router doesn't support DHCP reservation.

The strange thing is that I could connect with a ntp-server just fine before. If it was only the time server that wasn't working this wouldn't be a big problem. But download station is not able to connect bittorrents either anymore.

I hope you have an idea what is wrong now. Otherwise I will update my router with alternative firmware to try DHCP reservation.

Hello Yamihu,

Does the NTP update work if you were to change to a different server?

I've tried it:
pool.ntp.org, time.nist.gov and time.windows.com all result in an connection error.

The cause is most likely not the synology diskstation os, because I resetted (by reset button) and upgraded it to the latest diskstation last saturday. I hoped this would fix my connection problems for time server and bittorrent.. But if it is not I just can't figure what it is then! the only other component is my wrt54g with latest version of original firmware.
