Router Configuration Issue? What happened?

I have the DS210j
My Router: Netgear WNDR3700

Since the 4.0 upgrade my DS has been acting funny like flashing like a Christmas tree rendering it inaccessible once per day and having to improperly reboot in order for it to normalize again.
It finally got to the point where my password no longer allowed me into the UI!
I reset the system...
and then I updated to the latest firmware 4.1 hoping it would help.

Now the problem I have is for the life of me, I can't seem to get my router to open ports or something is missing on the DS side of the house. I never had this problem before and have been enjoying remote access to my DS from several devices. I'm trying to open up 81 and 5000 or any for that matter and they all come back failing the connection test.

What am I missing?

Did you try a port in the private range? (49152–65535)

I was having issues with selecting a different port then 22 for my SSH access. Only a port from the private range would work.
