Remote access doesn't work, modem screen appears

Postby maarten_m4 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 6:06 pm

Hi all,

I'm new here, hope you can help me. I've a problem with the remote access of my NAS. My NAS is connected to my router.

My router has ip 10.0.0.1, my NAS 10.0.0.5. I'd like to have access to the GUI of my NAS. Therefor i setup port forwarding on my router as follows:
    Service Name NAS
    Start Port 5000
    End Port 5000
    IP 10.0.0.5
I created a synology.me account. When i go to that address I see the config screen of my modem. When i try it from outside i don't get any results.

What did i do wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

Maarten

Add the port to the URL of your synology account. For example, http://maarten_m4.synology.me:5000

Double check your port forwarding. Make sure it's set for TCP, not UDP.

Also, some networks have non-standard outbound ports blocked. I can't access my NAS through a web browser from work, but I can get to it from Starbucks, the library, my phone, etc.

What is your subnet topology?
Modem --> Router --> NAS ?
or
Router with build in modem --> NAS
What address is on the WAN (router) public or private ?

Wan address is the address your modem gets from your internet provider.

since you have 2 ruters(yes most modems acts a ruter) you need to do it twice to get port forward work, or you can set you modem up in a bridge mode and add the login details to the ruter.(you need to check with you internet provider what info/type you/they use).

My modem has internal IP 192.168.1.254

My router has IP 10.0.0.1

My NAS has IP 10.0.0.5

When i enter USER.synology.me internally i go to the modem setup screen. When i do this from an external network i don't see anything.

Should i setup my modem to forward to 10.0.0.1 and my router to forward to 10.0.0.5:5000?

If your internet service is xDSL
1. best if you set the modem as a bridge mode but before you do that, you have to configure modem, configure your LAN network IP on the modem to static IP (DHCP: OFF) because after you start modem in bridge mode, modem will transparent
2. you need to know login and password to access to the internet (this is not password from modem or router) this is password that ISP was given to you.

3. On router you have to configure port WAN to PPPoE mode - in here you have to give login and password

After that, when your modem is transparent, your WAN port on router will get public IP and redirection port will be correct.

You can read about public or private address on WIKI
If you don't know how to do that, give me a model of your modem, router, but before i have know, is your service is xDSL

thanks for your reply. I have indeed ADSL. I'm not sure how the modem is configured at the moment. It was automated by my internet service provider. I don't know my username and password for internet. I'll check it with my isp.

Username will be visible in the modem GUI
You have to gain a password

Remember before you start
I don't know what is your configuration of router, so for security reason, change your password on router

when your router gets public IP (maybe) it will be accessible from internet

Sorry i was to early with my post. It's only working from within my own network.

I added a fixed IP on my modem for the router. And I added a forwarding rule to that ip. I did the same for my router. When i'm at home i now reach the NAS, but from outside it still doesn't work.

Do i need to open port 80 on my modem?

Didn't want to start a new topic but I now have the following situation.

I can reach my nas user interface via port 5000. If I now want to go to NZB (port 8080) it doesn't work.

I did the following port forwarding setup in my router:

IP 10.0.0.5 port 5000
IP 10.0.0.5 port 8080

Why can't I now reach NZB?

THanks.
