Hi

I have tried with 8 different types of 5300 speed ram modules, and I finally succeeded with

Samsung M470T2953EZ3-CE6

Probably because they run 4200 fine, my theory is that the ram you used has to run 4200 speed.
I my self couldn't find any used 4200 speed ram modules.

Hi

I can confirm this I also upgraded my Synology DS209+II with a Samsung M470T2953EZ3-CE6 1Gb stick

Works like a charm, no problems running memory test.

Any ideas if that will work on a Regular DS209?

Hi
I doubt it because as far as I know the 209 uses 16bit@DDR800 sdram and the 209+II uses 64bit@DDR533 ddr2ram

Other users, please be advised/aware that not every version of Samsung M470T2953EZ3-CE6 will work.
I myself have had no success by swapping the 512 MB for this 1GB stick :(

I successfully upgraded my DS209+II using a Samsung M470T2953EZ3-CE6 chip. First boot all I got was a blue flashing light but after a reset all was good.

The guy I bought it from sent me two so if someone is in the market to upgrade let me know. Whole process took less than 5 minutes from open box to boot.

I have just received the Samsung M470T2953EZ3-CE6 memory stick, but my 209+II does not boot... the blue powerlight keeps on flashing...

So not all of them work.

I have booted several times.

Hi

Make sure that you have pressed the ram firmly into the socket, at my first attempt i missed that and the DS gave me blue blinking

I did try multiple times...

-Removed the 1GB module
-Placed the original module
-Boots perfectt right away
-Removed the original module
-Placed the 1GB module
-No boot, only blue flashing light
-... and so on

Did this 3 times, everytime with the original module the NAS booted, with the 1GB module not. So in my case it is not the 'making contact' problem. I did mount them correct and firmly.

I will/can try it again, but I am thinking of sending the memory back and order an other one somehwere else, until I have the right one.

Keep you updated.

Hi

Make sense, I tried 8 different RAM modules before I found one that fitted my DS.

Apperently there is also a difference within the Samsung M470T2953EZ3-CE6 range...

Is there a possibility to figure out a certain serial number range?

I did a tutorial on how to increase the memory to a Synology DS209 + II 512Mb to 1Gb. http://www.binaryworld.es/hardware/synology/tutoriales/872-synology-ds209ii-increase-memory.html and can be visited in many other tutorials on this NAS

Per my earlier post;
One thing I noticed was if you get only a blue flashing light, try the reset button. Once I did that and rebooted the unit worked fine, no data loss.

"Your mileage may vary so be sure your data is safe"

FWIW, I ended up getting 2 RAM chips so if anyone needs an twin to the one I used let me know.
