Address Book

Postby Townie » Sat Apr 03, 2010 11:05 pm

Having updated to the latest version of Mailstation I was dissapointed to see all the contacts in the address book had vanished. I knew all about the config and aliases file being rewritten and as such had backed these up, but didn't realise it would also wipe the address books of all users.
Having just spent ages going through mails and adding people to each users address books I wondered just where these are kept and how could I back these up to avoid having to do it again.
I'm guessing it's in the database somewhere but have been unable to locate them so any help would be appreciated.

OK so after some digging I located where contacts and id's are stored in the PostgreSQL database. As a side note, why are there two different databases, MySQL and PostgreSQL? Come to think of it there are two webservers too, Lighttpd and Apache, but that is for another day.
Anyway, after reading a little I installed phpPgAdmin, a similar thing to phpMyAdmin, but for PostgreSQL. Assuming it would be either password free or would work with an admin pass I tried in vain to connect as well as add a user to connect with CLi or web interface, sadly with no joy.

My question is now, having found the database how do I manage and back it up? The backup in the main admin pages only allows for MySQL backups, not PostgreSQL, so how can I log in to the PgSQL to manage and back things up?

Thanks for that Harry, it's a good find. Excellent guide albeit with a couple of tweaks needed. indeed it gave me more insight into how the whole webserver works, including folders other than the default web root, as well as adding your own items on the DS menu, that was a great find.
My German is ... well.... a little rusty. :D but still it was not too bad, add a few translations for the technical stuff and it was pretty straight forward.

Couple of notes if anyone else is interested.
login is admin not root, root doesn't exist for some reason.
Before logging in, the config file needs adapting to allow admin login. It's default is deny superuser until you are happy with the security setup.
