Can't remove /plex even after uninstall

Postby Leonmeijer » Sat Jun 16, 2012 3:37 pm

Hello all,

I'm having a nasty issue here. I've installed Plex media server but didn't need it anymore so: I uninstalled it.
But when I uninstall something I expect it to be completely removed so I checked my shared folders (DS411) and noticed the /plex shared folder was still there so I deleted it. But the nasty system just keeps on recreating the (shared) folder in /Volume 1/plex (all other folders show only /Volume 1).
The package is unisntalled in package centre but this folder should be gone too. How can I remove it?

I would like to say I have the exact same issue.

I have tried re-installing.. re-uninstalling.. rebooting to no avail.

Tried manually deleting the shared folder and it remains.

How can this folder be deleted?

I just found this topic on the Plex support forum, it's a bug...

http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/top ... ology-nas/

Maybe it can be done via terminal? Any ideas?

Same thing here. Uninstalled, rebooted. Share cannot be deleted.
Reinstalled the package again. It now doesn't start with an error.
Uninstalled, deleted Plex user but the share can't be deleted!!! This sucks.

Guys, this is interesting. I tried all sorts of trick that are mentioned in this forum. Nothing worked. Finally, I found a solution to this problem. Please login on ssh using "root" as a ID and also using your admin password. It takes you to /root but change your path to /volume1. List all the directories and give this command

"rm -rf Plex" Boom!!!!!!!!!!!. You are done.

Important: please do not touch anything under / directory. Just close your window after delete. You may want to restart your DS for it to be disappeared from shared folder.

Dear All,

Thank you for your feedback.
This is a known issue and has been fixed in an upcoming release.

Please be careful if you are going to remove the directory under the shell.

Tried that but no luck, the shell goes displays a blinking cursor one line below the command untill I press control+C to cancel (waited about 10 minutes).

Hmmm! I just did it yesterday. Did you login as root not as admin?
Check ls -l and see who is the owner of the directory. In my case owner was "user" not "root"

I logged in as root indeed, the owner is "users". Tried a restart and tried it again and... IT SEEMS GONE, hopefully no config file is still linking to this directory...

I did that and now everything seems to be dead. SSH timeout, everything else no response either.

The worse part is I don't have physical access to it.

The rm Command can actually take quite a long time. I aborted it and looked around and did see that there was progress. It'd say on my DS1812+ it took over 30 minutes.

I had problems with the DLNA server in Plex, it kept crashing or not showing up, so i wanted a total remove. So I removed /Plex, now I cannot re-install the Plex server.
Well, it installs, but will not run, and i don't see a /Plex being created.

The uninstall issue still hasn't been resolved, even though Plex promised to do something about it months ago. Still no way to remove the Plex folder in the home directory without terminal commands, and I'm not up for that. I've deleted the contents of the folder - library, etc (I think) so hopefully it's not hogging space any more.

Plex seems WAY too complex for what it does, and demands too much CPU, time and space. It's only a media server after all, and not a very good one.

I found this on the Plex website:-

You can remove the Plex share from the syno by using SSH and logging in with the root account.
Look here for info on SSH

http://forum.synolog..._Line_Interface

Once your (sic) logged on do this

Type

cd / (enter)
cd volume1 (enter)
rm -r Plex (enter)

This can take a long time if you had a large library.

I tried this and, sure enough, the directory disappears. The bad news - it keeps coming back!!
