209+ ST31500341AS, drive failure!

Postby Jespersen » Wed Apr 08, 2009 12:39 pm

I just upgraded from my 106 to a brand new 209+ including 2 new harddrive Seagate ST31500341AS 1,5 TB firmware SD1B.

First I installed both drive, not in raid mode, just normal, and everything worked normal-- for 2 days.

Then the diskstation got problems with my hard drive first drive 1 and then drive 2!! I bought 3 drives the last stays in my Mac Pro with out any problems at all.

Then I upgraded to the last hard drive firmware SD1B, followed your guide on wiki"How to prepare your hard disks" .
I used the program DBAN 1.07. after that I made a sector test with the tool from seagate called "Seagatea tools" and last I performed a "Smartest"

All test passed without any problems?

I was happy, and installed my 2 hard drives again, but now after two days the diskstation tells me that disk 1 have crash and in the system logs it says "Read error at md2 disk1 sector 941540415."

Please help it seems that nothing is wrong with the hard drives or the 209+. What can i do? My business is very depend it on the nas drive.

Are there anybody with a stable 209+ 2 ST31500341AS system?

Sincerly Lars Jespersen

I don't think anyone has been able to get a stable system using RAID with those Seagate drives. I have sent two of mine back because of issues just like yours, and have had no problems running the last one as a single basic disc for a couple of weeks now.

Dear Elena Lo and Synology support.

Follow up? On ticket #24984

Since my last mail I tried to go with only one disk connected to the 209+. But I still got problems from time to time the 209+, there is no connection to the ethernet even when i ping direct? Then I have to manual start it again, before the ethernet connection is working again. This night the 209+ was beebing very annoying, waked up my wife :(. And all the green light was now orange, i pulled out the plug.

Next morning I turned on the 209? Again, and guess what everything was working again, but I couldn't find any error msg in the system log, I dont why?

I am very close to sent my 209+ back to the shop, but I would like to wait for your very competent engineer, and listen to theirs conclusion. I have uploaded the recent system log and kernel-

Yours sincerely Mr. Lars Skree
