Please update it via Control Panel --> DSM update.

Thanks for the feedback
It's a pity that Synology them self did not react, but good to know that there are people who care.

My trust in the Synology brand is still somewhat shaken I must say.
Not because something did not work, sh*t happens now and then, but because of the lack of feedback.

My DS212j is at the moment back to the store where the people there are investigating it.
Hope Synology has better contact with their resellers, otherwise I am afraid that its gonna take a long time.

Very good!

I will submit a case so that Synology can verify I have the same issue.

If so, then I will keep this NAS.

I will post what I find out here.

Yikes! I wish I'd read this forum before buying the DS212j :(

Add me to the list of disappointed customers experiencing this problem. Support request submitted... let's see how quickly Synology can respond.

They sent me a little patch/update that has fixed the problem for me.

I tried this patch and it fixed the problem for me. Previously it would keep restarting when logged into the DSM software, now it is working fine! Thanks for posting the link.

Hi,
Just addin myself to the list - I'm having this exact same problem:
DS212j arrived this morning and has rebooted twice within a matter of hours!
DSM version is 4.0-2219
Hard drives (that came pre-installed) are Seagate ST2000DM001 (2 off 2TB in RAID mode)

All I've done is let it synchronise the RAID, installed the Syslog server app and created some shared folders.
The web interface was open and I was copying a large number of files - both times it rebooted after half an hour or so.
As it appears (from other posts) to be a combination of high disk use and using the web interface so I've closed the web interface and am currently copying the files over to see if it happens again.
Then, I will apply the patch kindly supplied by HannibalK1ng and keep my fingers crossed it'll be rock solid from then on.

I'm really annoyed about this issue - I'd read many good things about Synology NAS drives and had no doubt about what to replace our old Buffalo Terastation with. I'm beginning to think it was a mistake - especially considering that I rang Buffalo tech support about the old drive, which is years out of warranty and got straight through to someone who told me how get it running well enough to get the data off it. I can't even get hold of the people who supplied the unit, let alone anyone at Synology.
:(

I've put a support ticket in anyway, so will post back if anything comes of that.

I hope you have better luck than me. So far, I have submitted 2 tickets: one for the (apparently common) problem that the initial download of DSM to the device fails with a "file is corrupt" error (now "fixed" by repeating the install 4 times!); the other for the reboot problem. I have yet to receive a response to either ticket :(

Not a good first impression.

I had the same issue and Synology was not able to tell me why it was happening. They were leaning on it being a hw issue. I think it is a sw issue since it only reboots when DSM is running. I even mentioned the patch that was posted in this forum that fixed the issue for multiple people. Synology had me take multiple sets of logs but no suggestion of a sw issue. After several iterations of these auto resets, the 212j finally would not boot up. I returned the 212j and got my money back since I was still within my 30 days at Amazon. If I had let them replace it, then it would have been too late to return it if it was not fixed by replacing the unit. I will be watching and monitoring to see if Synology steps up and stabilizes DSM 4.0. I am not willing to be a early adopter (beta tester). I also don't like having a patch. I want a consumer NAS that does what is advertised reliably. Especially since this product is being used to secure my data.

Hope the best for you folks that keep driving for a resolution. I am going back to individual hd backups per computer for now.

After a week since opening a support incident regarding DS212j rebooting constantly, the support rep has had me jump thru power type hoops to insure it is not the power supply. Now (after I said I was prepared to return the unit to AMZN for a refund), the rep sent the link to the 212jNew.pat patch, that I had mentioned to him on day one. So far, it has not rebooted while in DSM (running extended SMART test) .. and appears to be the fix. Now, I will start exercising this unit, once the SMART test finishes. This shouldn't have taken a week. I had already downloaded the patch 5 days ago (from the forum), but wanted to see how efficient the support is. Yesterday, I emailed regarding the flash memory unit, and received the reply today, including the link to the patch. I should've done that a week ago. Go figure. :x and  , but now 8)

I got my unit Thursday and opened a support ticket the same day.
I got a reply from Synology on Saturday telling me I should patch it (same link as given in this thread)
Problem is, my suppliers insisted I return the unit for a replacement (which I'll recieve today, Monday)
I could go through the same procedure again and possibly prove its a problem with DSM v2219 and not the hardware, but I won't...I've wasted enough time already so will install 2219, apply the patch and just get on with putting files on it.

If there is a wide-spread problem with these units and the latest firmware - why not tell the distributors about the patch? It's not really good enough for me to be doing research and finding a solution for something that didn't work out-of-the-box.

Thanks for reacting
As you can see in this topic and in many different topics in this forum is that Synology customers have an other Idea what to write in Community forums hosted by the producer of their equipment.

I do not expect to see an personal reaction, but somewhat of an announcement or an direction witch way to go, certainly if many people have the same kind of problems and in this case if Synology has made a patch for it.

I think Synology misses a good opportunity to communicate positive with it's customers.

As you say in your signature :
"Please do not Private Message me for support questions; leave it on the forum so all members can learn. Thanks"

That's what your customers think of their problems, not only in an ticket only viewable for Synology
Make an open ticket system, so that customers can see where the problems are and what to expect and what the status is of the problems.
That is a good way of communicating with your customers.

And why you redirect me to the forum policy page is not clear to me, did I wrote something wrong?
Did I use improper language?
Sorry, but English is not my native tongue

My Synology supplier forced me into returning and replacing the unit - however, on the day of pickup nothing was left as a replacement.
It turned out part of their Synolgy range had suddenly gone out of stock.
Being pretty fed-up with the whole situation by now, I've had them send me a Buffalo Linkstation instead. This is working perfectly (why wouldn't it ?)
Sorry I won't be able to confirm whether the patch works or if it's a combined issue with hardware as well.
Best of luck to you all anyway

I am happy to report that Synology support provided me with a DSM 4.0 patch (looks like the same one quoted by other users) which appears to have resolved the problem :)

Disappointed new 212j owner here. Same issue as above so I've sent a support ticket.

I'm concerned that a product is being sold with a known issue but the software downloads available through the Synology site do not address the problem.
