I can confirm numerous (up to a dozen per day) and very annoying self shutdowns.

DS212J + 1xST2000DM001 updateed to DSM 4.0-2198.

Same here
DS212J 2x Samsung EcoGreen disk.
Latest software DSM_DS212j_2198.pat

Just purchased this NAS and trying config it.

But it keeps resetting, the fan changes speed, the disks stops and start again
It happens irregular, sometimes 10 minutes sometimes within a minute.

Did try to put the disks to no sleep, cool fan mode, no avail

It happens when I am working via the web interface, or with putty.
Very annoying.

I'm new here, is Synology reading it own forum, or is it the same as Logitech, no support?

There's a similar thread in the system management section. My unit is brand new with 2 x Seagate 2TB drives in RAID1. It reboots itself often, only seems to happen when I have the DSM web interface open. Pretty poor for a brand new device, and seems fairly common.

I have seen the same issue. My new DS212j disk station keep reboot with "System booted up from an improper shutdown" once a day, which is quite annoying. What should I do, wait for a help test, or just return the damn unit.

I am wondering whether this is a software issue or a HW failure.

I just bought the DS212j and have had it running for about 3 days and am seeing the same thing multiple times a day. Sometimes the frequency is every 5 - 10 minutes. Usually it will not reboot if I don't use access it via the 5000 port.

What does not have an impact is whether the UPS, or external USB drive is connected.

Here is the message in the log after it reboots:
"System booted up from an improper shutdown"

This has caused a format of a disk to fail and now the disk is unusable.

My impulse is to return the DS212j. I have looked through the forums and don't see any progress yet on this issue although many people are seeing it.

Anyone else have the same experience?

If so any success in finding a workaround?

Any success with support?

I guess the Synology people don't read the forum, or are instructed not to answer to forum questions
The one who send in a ticket has not heard from Synology or is not giving feedback on this forum.

Bad thing!

Hi guys,

This problem has been fixed for me by the support team.

They sent me a little patch/update that has fixed the problem for me.

It's been online for over 1 week now and i've stressed the crap out of it so for me the issue is sorted.

I dont see any reason why I cant give the link to the patch?
Im not going to guarantee that it will work or held responsible for any issues it might cause.

mod note: link removed

Please update it via Control Panel --> DSM update.

Hope this helps
