Network problems when Synology NAS connected

Postby daggas66 » Wed Mar 28, 2012 9:47 pm

I have a BT home hub 3 (BT infinity), and just purchased a D110j (DSM3.2). Whenever I plug the NAS into the network (either directly into the 4 port bt hub or a connected 1gb switch) my other wired and wireless devices suffer a ridiculous performance hit.

I typically get 17mbps download speedtest with the NAS unplugged, yet as soon as I plug the NAS in it drops consistently to 0.49 Mbps !!! Making surfing extremely slow.

I've tried tweaking some of the settings on the NAS to no avail. Can anyone suggest anything, or is it worth trying to reset the NAS? Or could it be a config issue with the BT hub?

Also, I've noticed the green NAS lights as continuously in action. Top one constantly on, the 2nd quickly flashin, and the 3rd flashing intermittently. Is this normal?

Thanks for any help.

I would recheck all network parameters on the NAS.
It seems like (but I don't mean it's the only possible cause) you have some IP conflict, e.g. if you set NAS address equal to LAN gateway.

Thanks for the suggestion. I played around a bit more with it last night and I've narrowed it down to the Download station. As soon as I turn it off I get 17 Mbps again. Turn it on and back to 0.5 with only one download. Pause the download and it changes to 4 mbps  . Close download station and it's back to 17.

I'm following the download section area of the forum now as It turns out this post is now in the wrong place, but anyone having the same problems can start with this thread http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=36908

Thanks.
