Video Player

Postby nic2112 » Wed Mar 14, 2012 1:21 am

Hello everyone,

I have been doing a lot of reading on this topic and unfortunately I'm pretty much more confused than before. Basically, I'm looking for a way to play videos and music that is on my NAS server without having to use my computer.

My TV and my DVD player are both 3+ years old so they don't do DLNA. I managed to make my XBOX work (sorta) by installing TVersity on my computer and having the XBOX connect to the TVersity. This is not practical because it's wasting a lot of bandwidth and it requires my PC to be ON. Also, the XBOX doesn't seem to support a lot of video formats, more often than not I get errors while trying to play something.

Is there something I can do to configure this better? I don't mind buying a DVD player that supports DLNA if that's a good option, or another box that would be dedicated just to that, as long as it's not too expensive.

Can anyone recommend a good solution?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have just got a 212j, one of the reasons was to stream video.

I have been running serviio from my pc for some time, & then found I could install it to a NAS.

Hi there,

I am using several options, such as a DLNA compatible streaming media player but also a Philips DVD/BD player with Upnp/DLNA network access.(BDP6000, but also BDP8000).
so I can play my DVD/Blue Ray but all downloaded *.avi, *.mkv etc from same player, setup, tv etc.

works great, via wireless or wired setup!

hope helps!

I use 2 Tivo Premieres to play video, music and photos from my 1511+ to every screen in our home. Nice whole home media solution. Oh, and a great DVR to boot.

What are you using to stream from your Synology box to your Tivo? Is it the built in software or did you add something?
