Error when pausing for too long

Postby pitchpuller » Tue Feb 07, 2012 2:52 pm

I have been having an issue that I believe started after updating to DSM 3.2-1995. Whenever I play back an M4V file and pause it for more than a minute or two I get a network error and the show resets to the beginning if I play it again. IF I stop the movie and play it again it will resume properly. This error occurs when playing back to a PS3 or a WD TV Live. The error does not occur when the same movie file is moved to a Windows or Mac machine and streamed to the PS3 or WD TV Live. My testing shows this issue to be isolated to the Synology box. Anyone else have this issue.

Is this issue only occurring when you play back and pause an M4V file? If you pause an AVI or MKV for example, does the error occur.

I don't know about the other file types. I only use m4v files.

I read on another post last night that the built in DLNA server isn't the greatest piece of software around. If you haven't already, this thread may provide some insight as to not only the issue but also an alternative way to access the media and reasons for doing so: http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=44545

I have this issue and it drives me nuts, I have DS411+ and this happened on DSM3.1 and now also 3.2. If I pause any video file (MKV,AVI...)that I am steaming via the synology DLNA server for more than 30 secs and resume it will just stop playing after a couple of seconds. This is a Synology issue as this happens when steaming to Samsung All Share (D8000) and also WDTV which rules out the media player, I have also read ppl have this issue on PS3 too. Has anyone found a fix for this ?

I have the same problem with ds212+, dsm 4.0. After pause for 5 min if i hit play on my tv remote, i lose my connection with ds. I stream via lan cable to a samsung ue40es5500 tv, latest firmware, through a linksys e4200 router.
The fast forward and next functions are not working, but the left and right keys on the tv remote are working, and they are skipping about 30 sec forward/backward. Also after a long pause, if i use left or right i do not lose the connection. After i lose the connection to ds, i have to restart the tv or do the network setup again on the tv, a simple refresh is not enough.
It may be router related, i am not sure.

LE: I just installed serviio and resume is ok even after almost one hour, so it looks like my router is fine and this is a media server issue.

Hi.

I have the same problem with DS 212+ and my media player Xtreamer MK1 (http://www.xtreamer.net/xtreamer/overview.aspx

Before, I had a Netgear ReadyNasDuo NAS from where I played mkv files via SMB network shares : I can pause and resume the video on xtreamer so often I wanted successfully. :D

Now, I replaced my Netgear NAS by a new DS 212+ Nas. When I pause and resume a MKV files on xtreamer, the video starts for 2 or 3 seconds and freeze again for 10 seconds  , then starts again or stops with an error from the xtreamer, (french error message is "Support video enlevé" means "Video file missing").

So, I could pause/resume with Netgear NAS and I can't now with Synology NAS.
I don't use DLNA, just SMB share.
It seems that pausing/resuming an mkv file is like crashing the network share.

Is-there any information or correction about this problem ? Thanks

Would just like to add a +1 to this, my DS411J with WDTV Live does exactly the same thing.

Same problem here too!

Synology DS412+ with DSM 4.0 and Samsung TV PL50C550. If I just pause for few seconds and start again works fine, but if pause, for example for few minutes, the system jump by it self to next video.

Tested with MP4 and MKV files, movies, series...

I have a
Samsung UN46D8000 (latest firmare)
Linksys E1200 Router (latest firmware)
Diskstation DS212j (latest firmware)
connecting cables: Cat6a (all hard wired)

I can confirm two problems:
1. Pausing for more than 30 seconds causes the network connection to drop
2. fast-forward / any functionality beyond play/stop on the DLNA player fails

DIrect connection with a cross-over patch cable does not appear to help.

Frustrating as hell.

I would just like to throw my hat in the ring for this one too.

Watching on a 55C7000 or a 46D600 (SmartTV) using DLNA, if paused for too long it does skip and start the next episode.

Anyone able to get any further with this one?
