Fixed it now, to answer my own post

Java does not have the run option after install but you can test that it is install by logging into the console and typing java -version see below.

Code: Select all
DiskStation> java -version
java version "1.7.0_02"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment for Embedded (build 1.7.0_02-b13, headless)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 22.0-b10, mixed mode)
DiskStation>

I believe that the actual problem was because I deselected the option to run after install on the Serviio installer. After doing this for some reason it would not run. I uninstalled and reinstalled with this option enabled and it is all working.

Great job Patters Thanks for your contribution

Re: Serviio 0.6 package

newbie question here.

I'm running DSM 3.2 on a USB Station 2. I was reading the instructions to install Serviio and it mentions that it can be done through the Package Center but I can't find it in the web interface.

Is the Package Center available on the USB Station 2? Or do I need to open a terminal session and use command prompt?

I plan to use Serviio to try streaming mkv files to my PS3, does anyone think this is feasible on the USB Station 2?

Thanks,
s0laris

I've tried, and failed, to install Serviio on the DS712+ using the installation guide.

I tried both the Java 6 installer using (ejre-1_6_0_30-fcs-b12-linux-i586-headless-10_nov_2011.tar.gz) and the Java 7 installer using (ejre-7u2-fcs-b13-linux-i586-headless-22_nov_2011.tar.gz) combined with Synology NAS GPL Source (gcc420_glibc236_pineview.tgz). Both installs fine but none of them starts.

Am I doing something wrong or will this be corrected via a future fix?

Today I installed Servio on my DS712+ and its running (didn't tested transcoding or video's).
Added the packet source: http://pcloadletter.comlu.com

I have downloaded following files
gcc420_glibc236_x64-GPL.tgz
from:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dsgpl/f ... neview%29/

Java SE for Embedded 6 (didn't tested it out with 7) x86 Linux Small Footprint - Headless
from:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... index.html

saved both files to /volume1/public
renamed the gcc targz to "gcc420_glibc236_x64-GPL.tgz" so the java install scripts correctly finds the file.
Installed Java 6 through the install script
Installed Servio through the install script
=> Works.
Tested the mp3 playing with ps3 and iphone seems to work so far.

I like Serviio, but what are the benefits of installing this instead of using the default Synology Server?

Thanks

I also installed Serviio, but the tree management was not much better than the DSM version. The biggest problem is that Serviio did not load the metadata info from my video files. You could let Serviio to get extra info from the internet, but that is going to be bad info if you cannot review it.

What I would like to see is an UPNP/DLNA server that reads the metadata from the M4V files and uses it to create the browsing tree. I prefer the software I have in the PC in order to make sure the metadata is right.

By the way, I uninstalled Serviio. Might install again if somebody points me in the right direction. Documentation on Serviio is very very scarce.

Hi,

I'm very new to the NAS world... I bought it thinking it would make available all my videos throught DNLA but I'm slowly realizing there are still a lot of compatibility issues :( ...
the internal media server sucks i'm only able to play less than half of the movies...now I'm trying to use Serviio so firstly thanks for your package I've tried to install it and I think it is installed and running fine (I can see it from my panasonic blueray player) but I'm not alble to change any settings, when I open the Serviio console any changes I make looks like is reverted back after I press save...... so I tried to share the video folder, after selecting it I press save all ok and then after is finished saving the folder is not there anymore, the same is true with any setting in the application.....Could please someone help me?
what am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Hi, I try the new DSM beta 4.1 and now Serviio don't scan media folder with french character. If a subfolder contain a "é" character it isn't displayed.

Someone else have this problem?
Thank you.

Uninstall and reinstall the Java package. That will fix the system locale support (it gets removed during a DSM upgrade).
