DS212J - CIFS errors

Postby leon99 » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:38 am

I setup my DS212J with two SEAGATE ST2000DL003 drives in RAID1 configuration on my office lan. I also setup Backuppc 3.2.0 (on ubuntu server 10.04.4 lts) to make backup on a share folder on DS.
On Ubuntu i have this rows on kernel.log:
Code: Select all
...
CIFS VFS: server x.x.x.x of type Samba 3.2.8 returned unexpected error on SMB posix open, disabling posix open support. Check if server update available.
...
CIFS VFS: No response to cmd 46 mid 34580
CIFS VFS: Send error in read = -11
CIFS VFS: No response to cmd 46 mid 34618
CIFS VFS: Send error in read = -11
CIFS VFS: Unexpected lookup error -112
CIFS VFS: Write2 ret -11, wrote 0
...

and more (much more).
DS unexpectedly reboot and consistency check start on volume1 (and backup fail).

I searched the forum but could not find others with these errors.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them.

I've got a very similar problem with my xubuntu 12.04 connecting to my DS110.
Seems to be making my CIFS shares incredibly slow. did you find a solution?
thanks

I have the same problem on my old DS207+

I believe this has to do with a Samba bug:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8111

unfortunately, the DS only runs a 3.2.8 server. Seeing that the DS212 also runs 3.2.8 makes me doubt that Synology intends to provide a firmware upgrade that would include a newer Samba version.

See that new DSM 4.1 will include samba 3.6

I was able to overcome the problem by installing Samba 3.6 myself.

It is not just a point-and-click process, but anybody who feels confident enough to do such things himself can just follow the instructions (in German) under

http://www.synology-wiki.de/index.php/IPKG

and

I found similar information, at least for ipkg on the english wiki.

http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.ph ... ,_ipkg_etc

But the German version is more complete... given that German and English are quite similar languages, Google translate should be able to do a good job on the German version.

The idea is to first install ipkg so that you can then use ipkg to install a new samba version and make the system use that new version instead of the old one; the old samba version still remains on the system, so it is just a matter of renaming two files to go back to the previous configuration.
