Connect to share but do not have write permissions?!?!

Postby stephenmbell » Wed Dec 28, 2011 3:21 am

I have a Synology DS411 slim set up here, running DSM 3.2.

I have created file shares, and time machine and all of this for my mac. I have had this up for about 8 months now and everything is working great.

What I cannot seem to figure out is - under the File Sharing / Priveleges section, Win/Mac/NFS, I have Windows File Service enabled, I am not a member of a domain, the Mac file service is enabled, and NFS is enabled.

I have a shared folder, Public. I would like to use this space for my wife and I to share some house hold files between our Macbooks, things like budgets, address books, etc.

On my mac, I open finder, connect to server, I have connected to this folder via smb and via afp, I can browse and open the files.... But - when I open an excel file, make changes to it, I cannot save it. It looks like I don't have modify / write / delete privileges. When I look at the permissions in DSM on this shared folder, I have read/write.

How can I get it so that I can modify/delete the contents of this share? I don't have *that much* experience with linux based servers. I am fairly familiar with SMB and I understand on a very basic level NFS, but apparently not enough :)

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

sb
