Mac OSX Lion environment problems

Hi,
I am new to the Synology forum. I purchased a DS1500+ this week, and I have mind boggling issues.
My office is totally MAC OS X Lion. Megabit wired CAT5 two Cisco and two Belkin MBit switches. A Belkin N1 Twin AP, and an Apple AP Extreme.
The setup of the NAS went very smooth, 4X1GB disks andy RAID 5 Config. Dandy. I liked the interface and seemed all quite straightforward. Assigned a static IP address to the NAS and told the DHCP server likewise. The NAS appears neatly and correctly named in the list of devices.

I started with AFP services only and it seemed to work fine on the wired connection to the iMac. The Diskstation appeared, so I took the next machine, a new MBP using WiFi to the Belkin AP and for the life of me I could not map the NAS shares. Then I connected to the Apple AP and voila they appeared after a while while fiddling with the Synology assistant app.
The NAS appeared and when double clicking the NAS entry Safari opens with the Logon screen of the NAS. When trying to enter the UID/PWD it does not let me in??? Closed Safari tried Firefox, and voila this does let me in. Totally reproducible.
When connecting the share in finder, it allows me to connect as a registered NAS user. Switching back to the Belkin AP the shares disappear again.

OK, Switched on Windows File Sharing and now I can map shares in both configurations however AFS in the Apple AP connection and SMB:CIFS in the Belkin connections.

OK, Try to re-establish my Chronosync(4) backup schedules to incrementally back up the iMac and the MBP.
Now the backup starts on each machine and crashes as somewhere in the synchronization process the shares disappear from both machines. It takes a lot of trying before I get the shares back on each machine (seems non deterministic what causes the shares to appear again) in some cases I manually had to mount CMD+K the things again.
Chronosync backups consistently crash the connection, and the only messages I saw here and there appeared in dissected packages such as the Aperture libraries regarding file-name length and mismatch in case sensitivity between the MAC FS and the NAS.

My tired old and cheap Maxtor NAS RAID0 (SMB) is looking wearily at me from its corner while I am fiddling with this, as if to say "I am still here" as this config has been working flawlessly for three years now, and still does.

Can someone enlighten me as to where start looking to address these issues, or that my choice for Synology may have been the wrong one for MAC environments?

I'm not using Lion but have also been trying to use Chronosync to backup my mac to a DS211J with very little success. I have set up seperate backups for my 'Documents', 'Music', 'Movies' etc. folders, and most seem to crash at some point during the backup process. The finder is frozen together with Chronosync and there is nothing recorded in the log. Whether there's a particular filename, hidden file, connection issue I'm unsure off. Have found a much simpler program N-sync to work but ironically would prefer to go with something with a higher pedigree - which I would consider chronosync to have.

It seems numerous users have had similar problems with Chronosync and their Synology NAS devices, but there doesn't seem to be a good explanation as to why this is the case. It would be great if Synology could suggeest a good way forward for those of us using OSX who want an alternative to Time Machine, which clearly works well, but does not provide files in an accessible format from offsite - hence missing one of the strengths of the synology devices in the first case.

So, sorry to hijack your thread, but hopefully someone might find a generic solution.

I have the same problem. But Chronosync has worked without problems until I installed DSM 3.2 on my DS406. Since I did that Chronosync has not completed a single backup. To me this looks like a DSM problem. Come on Synolgy, fix it, please.
