Move a folder now I can't access - help!

Postby gizmo17 » Fri May 04, 2012 5:25 pm

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question. I've also tried searching for answer.
I have a DS211J, I upgraded it recently to the latest frmware. Everything has been running smoothly until last night.
I was organizing some folders and created a new folder called "Books" to hold files. In the Synology "web page" for lack of a better term, I moved another folder (that contains many subfolders and files) into my new Book folder. I can see and access the folders and files fine in the Synology web page, but I can't access the sub folders in my Windows PC or from my iPhone app for that matter. If I try to access it via Windows explorer, I get a "can't access folder" error message when I try to access the sub folder, 2 levels down from the one I created. On the iphone app, I can get into the folder, but it'll just there are no contents to display.

Anyone experienced this before?
Thanks!

Hi

Go into your File Station, open the folder and right mouse click on the folder and chose properties, then chose the tab permissions, to see if the rights have changed.

Here yuo can also change them back to what you need.

Thanks mike42dk, your post led me in the right direction and I got it to work. I tried right clicking on the base folders that are on the left side of the window, the only folders that the "properties" menu came up for was the base folders that were there - Video, Music, Photos and 2 others that I had created but not for any sub-folders within those folders. And the properties in those base folders were fine as far as access rights. Right clicking on any sub-folder on the left side of the window didn't bring up a "properties" menu. However, I accidently right clicked a sub-folder on the right hand side of the window and "properties" was on the menu there for the sub-folder. In there, I was able to change the read/write attributes as mike42dk had suggested. After that, I was able to access from anywhere outside of the Synology browser. I didn't realize it made a difference which side of the file browser (or whatever Synology calls thier Windows Explorer) you right click on. Hope this helps someone.
Thanks again mike42dk!
