Download Station Temporary location/volume

Postby andrewC » Wed Apr 04, 2012 4:19 am

Hi,

I have a DS1812+ with the latest DSM. I have it with 3 hdds in raid 5 setup (volume 1). Some weeks ago I added another HD as volume 2. I changed the Download Station download destication location to a folder in volume 2 and the temporary location to volume 2; but I notice that when the DS1812+ is on and downloading through Download Station, the leds of the volume 1 disks continues to actively blink.

If so, is there a way to tell configure DS1812+ to only use/access volume 2 for Download Station ?

Any idea anyone?

Cheers,
Andrew

FYI,

Just open a support ticket regarding this recently. Suppport responded within 24hrs..asking for debug and remote access.

While setting up the remote access for support, I've also come to realize that the Volume 1 lights were blinking (during downloads) only when I was logged on to DSM and looking at the DownloadStation GUI. When I log off, the volume1 lights no longer blink.

So I guess, the blinking lights on Volume1 were in fact due to me accessing/monitoring the DownloadStation GUI , and is really no issue at all. Case closed. :)

Cheers,

I also noticed, that sometimes the wrong LEDs are blinking. I also have a two volume setup (3+3 HDDs) on my 1812+.

But if I add a torrent and check the volume capacity, it looks as if it's downloading to the right volume, however the LEDs on the wrong disks keep blinking.

That happens also when I am not logged into DSM.

Hi, I have the same issue.

My downloads are in an external USB hard drive (the temporary folder too) and when I'm not connected to the DSM the lights continues blinking, so I suppose I will open a case with support.

Hello.

I opened a case with Synology support about my case and I received this answer:

"Actually DSM is installed onto the hard disks and if any operation is performed or application is run, then the hard disks would in fact be accessed.
This is normal and nothing to worry about.
You can check the HDDs in Volume Manager and check it's capacity to verity that there is in fact nothing written to your internal HDDs since you are storing your data onto an external location."

Anyway I have re-answered that I don't understand why is blinking if is not writting o reading inside the hard disks, because the temp directory is in my external drive too.

I'm waiting for an answer.

hi all. i just bought 1511+.
can i assumed you all did 2 volumes, because you dont want to download torrent to your main volume?
im in similar situation. planning to run torrent 24/7.
currently have new 2*3tb, and 1TB old drive.

if i make main volume 2*3tb set as SHR (so later i can add more disks)
second volume will be that 1 TB disk, just basic single setup (or can i do SHR aswell?)
point all download to this drive, when finish move them to main volume.

is the above good enough? what happen if those 1tb disk is slower ?(rpm and sata different) from 3tb? will it make the syno slows?
