emule Priority changing on its own

Postby KiwiEater » Mon Sep 12, 2011 3:17 am

Last week running DSM 3.1 on my DS410, I noticed my 100 or so emule downloads were taking longer than usual so I went through them and found ~80% had their priorities now as low, ~10% as high and ~10% still as auto. I attributed it to finger problems and reset them all to auto priority. This week now running DSM3.2, I am down to ~80 downloads so started checking and again ~80% were now low, ~10% as high and the remainder were auto.

So issue 1: The emule download files priorities are changing without me changing them.

To change these all back to auto took me nearly an hour. I attribute this to the memory leak (issue 2) that I posted about in the DSM3.2 beta area. It would be useful if the priority field was a visible column in the download UI, so that I could see how quickly this problem is cropping up, and it would also make it easier to fix because I could sort by priority and group edit/change the files (feature request 1).

Any feedback of others seeing this behaviour would be useful.

Just an update, that 1 month later I am still seeing multiple files automatically getting downgraded to low priority.

Yet another month and still have 42 file slowly downloading, and I found today that 14 of the files were downgraded to low priority. I have not added or deleted any files since last month, so more proof that it seems to be an issue with the download manager itself.

Note that I have upgraded to DSM 3.2-1944, so now that everything is back to "auto" I will continue to monitor them.

It is now nearly three months since the last pot and of the original downloads I have 13 left and continue to find a couple of files downgraded to low priority each month. I have made sure not to add any new files or edit the properties of what is there, so definitely something else is modifying the priority.

Anyone yet seen this in the new beta or improved functionality in the download manager to help debug this?

Re: emule Priority changing on its own + new strangeness

Postby KiwiEater » Thu Oct 25, 2012 2:11 am

It has been quite a while, but I am moving forward on debugging this issue. I am currently running 4.1-2647 with download station pkg 3.2-2922 and saw the priority change for the first time in a while, plus other strangeness. With the introduction of Video Station, I was reshuffling all the files in my video share into subdirectories for Movies and TV shows. I then realized I had ~60 email downloads that I needed to change the directory the files will download into. I proceeded to highlight numerous files that shared the same destination directory, and used the edit function to make this change to them. I then did this for the remaining groups of download files.

After completing all the changes I stepped through all the files looking at their directories & priorities, and things looked good. As nothing was downloading I decided I should restart the service in case this was needed to have the directory to take place. Using the pkg service I stopped and restarted the download services. I then went back and re-entered the download station and proceeded to cursor down through each file. I found quite a few entries had reverted their directories back to the previous destination, and some entries also had changed to low priority. So the low priority issue was back and I went back file by file and changed the priority back to auto. The new issue with the directory reverting to an old entry even though it had shown the correct directory before the service was shut down, caused me to go through file by file and again change the directories to my desired new locations.

I think I can now attribute both issues to the selecting of multiple files and changing the directories or priorities enmass. Even though it appeared to take effect, the restarting of the service somehow reverted or caused the issues.

Hope this helps if anyone else is experiencing the above issues (or debugging them).
